[Purpose] This study aimed to identify the specific historical background of the introduction of golf in Korea. [Method] To this end, newspaper articles and magazines related to the introduction of golf in Korea in the 20th century were analyzed. [Result] The introduction of golf in Korea in the 20th century was the result of golf functioning as a cohesive capital for colonial rule and stability ot the system under the unique political environment of Korea, which experienced multiple layers of Japanese occupation and US military rule. [Conclusion] British golf was introduced as a leisure means for Japanese bureaucrats, U.S. military personnel and the Korean ruling class in the 20th century, and was used as a driving force to achieve complex and multifaceted goals such as politics, society, culture, and diplomacy.

[목적] 본 연구는 한국 골프 도입의 구체적인 역사적 배경을 규명하기 위한 시도이다. [방법] 이를 위해 20세기 한국 골프 도입과 관련된 신문기사와 잡지를 분석했다. [결과] 20세기 한국 골프의 도입은 일본의 점령과 미군정 을 중층적으로 경험한 한국 특유의 정치적 환경 아래 골프가 식민지 지배와 체제 안정을 위한 결속적 자본으로 기능한 결과였다. [결론] 영국산 골프는 20세기 일본 관료와 미군 그리고 한국의 지배층들의 여가 수단으로 도입 되어 그들의 정치·사회·문화·외교 등 복잡하고 다각적인 목적을 달성하기 위한 동력으로 활용되었다.
