초록

영어

Ssanggyesa Temple in Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do, has a large collection of 1,794 woodblocks of 32 kinds, which is an important resource for examining the printing culture of woodblocks of temples in the late Joseon Dynasty. This study specifically examined the large-scale carving work of woodblocks promoted by Ssanggyesa Temple in the 17th-18th century and the woodblocks for each period, and analyzed the publishing main host and background that participated in the carving. The carving work of Ssanggyesa Temple is largely divided into Neunginam Hermitage in the early 17th century, just after the Japanese Invasion of Korea and Ssanggyesa Temple in the late 17th century, It seems that the Buhyu clans, such as Buhyu Seonsu and Byeokam Gakseong, played a leading role in the carving work of Neunginam Hermitage. Also, it is believed that the woodblocks of Neunginam Hermitage was transferred to Ssanggyesa Temple through the records of ‘智異山能仁庵刊移鎭于雙溪寺’, which can be seen that Neunginam Hermitage was in charge of carving under the influence of Ssanggyesa Temple. In the early 17th century, the Buhyu clans did not show any distinct activities from the Cheongheo clans, but prior to the massive reconstruction of Hwaeomsa Temple and Ssanggyesa Temple, they published Buddhist scriptures for monks education at Neunginam Temple and Ssanggyesa Temple, which seems to have provided a starting point for training monks. Later in the late 17th century, Baekam Seongchong and Gyepa Seongneung carried out large-scale carving work such as Hwaeomhyeondamhoehyeongi and Daeseunggisinronsopilsagihoepyeon, and in the early 18th century, Seoksil Myeongan continued to publish Buddhist scriptures. Therefore, after the Japanese Invasion of Korea, Ssanggyesa Temple is believed to have served as a base in Jirisan Mountain such as Hwaeomsa Temple in the Buhyu clans, leading to “Buhyu Seonsu - Byeokam Gakseong - Baekam Seongchong - Seoksil Myeongan.”
