This study explored the roles of acceptance for differences and communication style in the relationship between adult attachment style and couple relationship quality. The Acceptance for Differences in Couple Relationships Scale (ADCRS) and other self-reported scales were administered to 100 unmarried and 100 married couples. The results showed that attachment anxiety and avoidance hindered the acceptance for differences. In contrast, acceptance for differences reduced dysfunctional communication, and enhanced constructive communication and relationship quality. Attachment avoidance adversely affected relationship quality, whereas attachment anxiety positively affected it. The single-mediating effects of acceptance for differences and dysfunctional communication in the association between adult attachment and couple relationship quality were significant. Further, the sequential mediating effects from acceptance for differences to constructive or dysfunctional communication were also significant. Additionally, differences according to gender were observed. Regarding men, the mediating effect of accepting differences was significant, and constructive and dysfunctional communication had no significant mediating effect on the relationship between adult attachment and couple relationship quality. The mediating effect of communication was significant for women. Finally, the implications and limitations of the study have been discussed.

본 연구에서는 커플관계에서 서로의 다름을 수용하는 태도와 성인애착, 의사소통, 커플관계 질 간의 관계 를 탐색하고, 성인애착과 커플관계 질의 관계에서 의사소통 및 다름 수용 태도의 역할을 검증하였다. 미혼 커플(100쌍) 및 부부(100쌍)를 대상으로 커플관계 다름 수용 척도를 비롯한 자기보고식 척도들(친밀관계 경 험, 의사소통 유형, 커플관계 친밀감, 안정성, 만족도 척도)을 실시하고 분석을 진행하였다. 그 결과, 애착불 안 및 애착회피는 다름 수용 태도에 유의한 부적 영향을 미쳤고, 다름 수용 태도는 역기능적 의사소통에는 유의한 부적 영향을, 건설적 의사소통과 커플관계 질에는 유의한 정적 영향을 미쳤다. 또한, 애착회피는 커 플관계 질에 부적 영향을 미쳤으나, 애착불안은 오히려 커플관계 질에 정적 영향을 미쳤다. 애착불안 및 애착회피가 커플관계 질에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 다름 수용 태도와 역기능적 의사소통의 단일 매개효과 가 유의하였으며, 다름 수용 태도에서 건설적 또는 역기능적 의사소통으로 이어지는 순차 매개효과도 유의 한 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 성별에 따른 차이가 관찰되었는데, 남성의 경우, 성인애착과 커플관계 질의 관 계에서 다름 수용 태도의 매개효과는 유의했던 반면, 의사소통의 매개효과는 유의하지 않았다. 반면, 여성 의 경우, 다름 수용 태도에 비해 의사소통의 매개효과가 두드러졌다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 시사점과 제 한점을 논의하였다.
