The place names were made for the area by people who had lived in the area for a long time. Since place names are written in language, the development of them is directly related to the development of language. Also, the place name is deeply related to the history and culture of an area. Seoul is a city with a long history and a long-standing culture, so it holds numerous colorful place names. Among them, there is a lot of linguistic and cultural information. This paper analyzed the linguistic and cultural characteristics of the place names of Seoul after classifying the origin of the Seoul’s place names, and studied the linguistic and cultural factors that influenced the development and change of the names, which includes the relationship between Seoul's place names and Chinese characters, the influence of city walls and gates on Seoul's place name, and the impact of people's values on Seoul's place name. This will help us get to know Seoul's place names better and make us feel the linguistic and cultural appeal of Seoul's place names better.

지명은 그 지역에서 오랫동안 생활해 온 사람들이 해당 지역에 대해 만든 이 름이다. 지명은 언어로 표기된 것이기 때문에 지명의 발전은 언어의 발전과 직결된다. 또한 지명은 한 지역의 역사, 문화와 깊은 관련이 있다. 서울은 역사가 깊고 문화가 오랫동안 발전한 동시에 현대화로 유명한 도시이 며 수많은 다채로운 지명을 가지고 있다. 그 중에 수많은 언어 문화적 정보가 담 겨 있다. 본 논문은 서울 지명의 유래를 분류한 것을 토대로 서울 지명의 언어 문화적 특징을 분석하였으며, 서울 지명의 발전과 변화에 영향을 끼친 언어 문화적 요소 를 연구하였다. 특히 서울의 지명과 한자의 관계, 옛 성곽이 서울의 지명에 끼친 영향, 사람들의 가치관이 서울의 지명에 끼친 영향 등을 자세히 연구하였다. 이는 우리가 서울의 지명을 더 잘 파악하는데 도움이 될 것이며, 우리가 서울 지명의 언어 문화적 매력을 더 잘 느낄 수 있게 할 것이다.
