This study aims to examine the direction of Korean politics by analyzing the characteristics of the presidential election, the expected leader image, and the Christian young adults’ role as members of society through interviews on the experiences of the Christian young adults participating in the 20th presidential election vote. The study was conducted through interviews with young people who had attended the church for more than 10 years, and the participants were eight unmarried individuals, five men and three women, age 21 to 32, who had attended church for more than 10 years. The 20th presidential election was characterized by the participants as with mental hardship, the occurrence of problems caused by the unification of candidates, the selection of the second worst candidate, the prominence of conflict and division, and the use of conflict in political parties. The participants’ desired president is one with the heart for the people, morality and sincerity, communication skills, integration, and capacity for governance. The participants’ desire for society is to offer future hopes, build social infrastructure, and solve housing problems. The participants’ roles as social members are to form a Christian worldview, achieve a calling with sincerity, have social sensitivity, and perform with distinctiveness and holiness. In this study, the negative experiences and emotions experienced by young people during the election process were dominant. Considering that the study participants expect the president to have a heart toward the weak, morality and sincerity, communication skills, and conflict integration skills, it was found that they value the president's values and attitudes to respect the people and shape “we community.” In addition, regarding their roles, the value and attitude of looking at society and themselves with a Christian worldview, achieving a calling with sincerity, forming social sensitivity, and pursuing holiness were found to be important. Based on the results, it is hoped that the president and the government, whose term recently started, will respect and accept Christian young adults' emotions and wishes to shape a healthy and visionary Korea. In doing so, as the participants expected from the president and society, this researcher also looks forward to Korea where morality and common sense are worked, people are respected, and people can live with hope.

본 연구에서는 기독청년의 제20대 대통령선거 경험에 관한 면담을 통하여 청년들 이 생각하는 대통령선거의 특징, 기대하는 지도자상, 사회구성원으로서 자신들의 역할 을 분석하여 한국 정치가 나아갈 방향에 대해 제안하고자 한다. 연구는 교회에 출석 한 지 10년 이상 된 미혼 청년 8명과의 면담을 통해 수행되었으며, 이들의 연령은 21 세에서 32세 사이, 성별은 남자 5명과 여자 3명이었다. 연구참여자들이 바라본 제20대 대통령선거의 특징은 마음의 힘듦 경험, 후보단일화로 인한 문제 발생, 차악의 후보를 선택해야 하는 구조, 갈등의 극명화, 각 정당의 갈등 활용이었다. 대통령에게 바라는 바는 국민(약자)을 위하는 마음, 도덕성과 진정성, 소통과 공감 능력, 갈등 통합 능력, 직무 능력이었고, 사회를 향한 바람은 미래의 희망 제시, 사회적 인프라 구축, 주택 문제 해결이었다. 기독청년이 바라보는 사회구성원으로서 자신의 역할은 기독교 세계 관 형성과 실천, 성실함으로 소명 이루기, 사회적 감수성 갖기, 구별되고 거룩한 삶 실천하기였다. 청년들은 제20대 대통령선거를 치루면서 부정적인 정서를 지배적으로 경험하였으며, 대통령을 향해 진실되며 사람을 존중하고 갈등을 봉합하는, 즉 국민을 존중하고 ‘우리’가 되게 하는 대통령의 가치와 태도를 중시하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 자신들의 역할에 대해서도 성경적 관점으로 나와 타인, 사회를 바라보고 거룩하 고 성실하게 살아가는 가치와 태도를 중시함이 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 토대로, 최근 임기를 시작한 대통령과 정부가 기독청년들의 정치 관련 정서와 바람을 수용하여 건 강하고 비전 있는 나라로 세워가기를 바란다. 그렇게 함으로 본 연구참여자들이 대통 령과 사회를 향하여 기대했듯이, 도덕과 상식이 통하고 사람이 존중되며 희망의 날개 를 달고 살아갈 수 있는 대한민국이 되리라 기대한다.
