This study aims to explore an ‘interactive bibliotherapy-bibliodrama’ model as a healing education model to overcome the pet loss syndrome experienced by a familiar companion animal’s death. Pet loss syndrome refers to the complex psychological difficulties experienced after the death of a companion animal –death denial, sadness, loss, depression, anxiety, insomnia that last for a certain period. The experience of losing a companion animal is similar to the sadness of the bereavement of a loved one. However, due to the low social cognitive sensitivity of pet loss, the companion’s ‘disenfranchised grief’ leads to pet loss syndrome. As the pet loss syndrome of companion animals is emerging as a new social problem, it requires developing of a pet loss healing education model. This study intends to propose an interactive bibliotherapy-bibliodrama model as an educational method to overcome the pet loss syndrome while sufficiently dissipating the grief and mourning of the companion from an educational-psychological point of view. To this end, this study explores domestic previous research on pet loss syndrome, explains what pet loss syndrome is, seeks a general understanding of interactive bibliotherapy-bibliodrama, presents five steps of interactive bibliotherapy-bibliodrama model, and proposes the importance/limitation and expected effects/utilization plan of this study.

본 연구의 목적은 가족화된 반려동물의 죽음으로 겪게 되는 펫로스 증후군(pet loss syndrome)을 극복하기 위한 하나의 펫로스 치유교육 모형으로 ‘상호작용적 독서 치료-비블리오드라마’ 모형을 모색하는 것이다. 펫로스 증후군은 가족 같은 반려동물 사망 후 겪게 되는 복합적인 정신적 어려움 – 죽음 부정, 슬픔, 상실감, 우울감, 불안, 불면 등 – 이 일정 기간 지속되는 것을 의미한다. 반려동물 상실 경험은 가까운 사 람의 사별 경험과 유사하다. 그러나 펫로스 인지 감수성이 낮은 사회적 환경으로 인 해 반려인의 ‘인정받지 못한 비애(disenfranchised grief)’는 펫로스 증후군으로 이어진 다. 반려인의 펫로스 증후군이 새로운 사회적인 문제로 부각되는 상황은 펫로스 치유 교육 모형 개발을 필요로 한다. 본 연구는 교육심리학적 관점에서 반려인의 비애나 애도를 충분히 발산하며 펫로스 증후군을 극복하는 하나의 교육방법으로 상호작용적 독서치료-비블리오드라마 모형을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해, 펫로스 증후군의 국내 선행연구를 탐색하고, 펫로스 증후군이 무엇인지 설명하고, 상호작용적 독서치료-비블 리오드라마에 대한 개괄적인 이해를 모색하고, 상호작용적 독서치료-비블리오드라마 모형 5단계를 제시하고, 마지막으로 본 연구의 중요성/한계성과 기대효과/활용방안을 제안한다.
