A Study on the Aporia and Literary Surface of Lee Changdong’s Films — Focusing on “Poetry” and “Burning”
초록
영어
This paper studies the literary surface of Lee Changdong’s films through the aporia from “Poetry” and “Burning”. Lee Changdong’s films have always been evaluated as literary, but their reality has not been fully investigated. In addition, the realism generalized by Lee Changdong’s methodology also contradicts the illusions from “Poetry” and “Burning”. Both films are closely related to the literary theme of poetry and novel, and portray the eternal failure of literature in sensuous cinematic language. In “Poetry”, the aporia of impossible representation by the subject who writes poetry is repeated. In “Burning”, the aporia of impossible narrative by the subject who writes novel is repeated. The aporia of both films results in the aporia of literature, and the aporia of writing towards others. The aporia of both films which demands infinite writing, inevitably places the audience in the position of a passive writer. This paper will demonstrate the literary surface of both films in relation to the audience’s narrative, via extrinsic thinking from Levinas, Blancheau, Deleuze and so on. The purpose of this study is to review Lee Changdong’s cinematic language and to unfold the aporia that creates literary responsibility.
