This study reviewed the production area of fish glue and the type of fish glue produced based on the collection of fish glue and the types of fish recorded in various geography books of the Joseon Dynasty, including Geography Section of the Annals of King Sejong. In the Gyeongsang-do area, Gyeongju-bu, Ulsan-gun, and Gijang-hyeon were added to the fish glue production areas in addition to Dongnae-hyeon, Gimhae-dohobu, Changwon-dohobu, Goseong-hyeon, Sacheon-hyeon, and Jinhae-hyeon, which were recorded as collected areas in Geography Section of the Annals of King Sejong. In addition, several areas adjacent to the sea were also assumed to be areas with very high production potential. In addition, the inland region also included many cases in which the production of fish glue had to be considered constantly. As a type of fish glue produced, it was difficult to consider the production of Nibe croaker glue generally expected. Next, the expected production of Croaker glue was also considered limited to the jurisdiction of Jinju-mok. Instead, based on the types of fish produced and the manufacturing cases of fish glue produced in other regions, the possibility of production of Salmon glue, Sea cucumber glue, and Sweetfish glue was newly considered. The above review is quite different from what was expected, and it is expected to provide a research perspective that can not be overlooked if research is conducted on the production areas of fish glue and the types of fish glue produced in other regions in the future. In addition, it is expected to contribute to the renewal of the discourse structure and boundaries on the place of production of fish glue and the type of fish glue produced during the Joseon Dynasty.

본 연구는 『세종실록』 지리지를 포함하여 『경상도지리지』, 『경상도속찬지리지』, 『신증동국여지승람』 등 조선시대 각종 지리지에 기록된 어교 공납과 각 군현별 산출 어종에 대한 내용을 토대로 어교 생산지와 산출 어교에 관 해 검토를 진행한 것이다. 경상도 지역의 어교 생산지는 『세종실록』 지리지에서 언급한 어교 분정 지역 이외에 다양한 지역이 생산지로 상정되었다. 즉 분정 대상으로 언급된 동래현, 김해도호부, 창원도호부, 고성현, 사천현, 진해현 이외에 경주부, 울산군, 기장현 등이 생산지로 추가 파악되었다. 이외에 바다에 인접한 여 러 군현 역시 생산 가능성이 매우 높은 지역으로 고려되었다. 뿐만 아니 라 내륙에 위치한 군현 역시 어교 생산을 일정하게 고려해야 하는 경우 들을 상당수 포함했다. 산출 어교의 경우 일반적으로 기대하는 민어교의 상정을 개진하기 어려웠 다. 그 다음으로 기대되는 석수어교의 경우도 진주목 관할 군현에 한정해서 고려되었다. 대신 산출 어종 및 기타 지역에서 전개된 제조 사례 등을 토대로 연어교, 해삼교, 은어교 등의 산출 가능성을 새롭게 상정했다. 이상의 검토 내용은 예상했던 것과 상당히 다른 것으로서 향후 기타 지역 의 어교 생산지와 산출 어교에 관한 연구를 진행할 경우 간과할 수 없는 연 구 시각을 제공할 것으로 기대된다. 아울러 조선시대 어교 생산지와 산출 어 교에 대한 담론 구조 및 경계를 새롭게 하는데도 일정한 기여를 할 것으로 기대된다.
