This study attempted to qualitatively examine a teacher’s beliefs and their formation process through narrative inquiry in order to understand the teacher's personal experiences in classroom management. When Kim started to teach Korean language at a university, she lacked self-confidence to the point that she could not even approach the students. However, with the help of her seniors and team teaching teachers, she came to manage her classroom with more confidence. Kim had the belief that creating a classroom climate where no one is left behind and everyone can enjoy learning is the most important factor in classroom management. The study found that Kim's beliefs were influenced by various experiences such as studying abroad, composition of students and team teaching teachers, best and worst classes, mentor teachers, information on students, and starting PhD course. The study concluded the research by exploring personal justification, social justification, and practical justification.

본 연구는 교사 개인의 경험을 이해하려는 목적에서 한국어 교사인 김 교사의 교실 경영 경험에 나타나는 교사 신념과 그 형성 과정을 내러티브 탐구를 통해 질적으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 처음 대학 기관의 한국어 교사가 되어 학생들을 가르치게 되었을 때에 김 교사는 학생들 가까이에 다가가지 못할 정도로 자신감이 부족했으나 주변 선배 교사 및 팀 티칭 교사의 도움으로 한국어 교사로서의 자신감을 가지고 한국어 교실을 경영할 수 있게 되었다. 김 교사의 한국어 교실 경영 이야기 속에는 ‘누구도 소외되지 않고 즐겁게 한국어를 배울 수 있는 반 분위기’가 가장 중요하다는 김 교사만의 교실 경영 신념이 드러나 있었다. 이와 같은 김 교사의 신념에는 외국 유학, 학생 및 팀 티칭 교사의 구성, 최고 및 최악의 반, 멘토 교사, 학생들에 대한 정보, 대학원 박사 과정 시작 등 김 교사가 한국어 교사가 되기 훨씬 이전부터 최근까지 겪은 다양한 경험이 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 본 연구는 개인적 정당화, 사회적 정당화, 실제적 정당화를 탐색하며 탐구를 마무리하였다.
