The absorption characteristics of each type of hot melt adhesive used in a general book binding and a pull-out book were analyzed and the quality of the book binding was studied based on the results of adhesion strength measurement. The PUR hot melt showed a lower absorption of the adhesive compared to the general hot melt and the eco-friendly hot melt, and the adhesive strength also showed a lower result. As a result of comparing the adhesive strength between the wood-free paper and the MFC textbook paper in consideration of the characteristics of the PUR hot melt, the adhesive strength of the wood-free paper which has excellent absorbency of the paper was found to be higher. In both perfect binding method and the bookbinding method composed of pull-out book, the adhesion strength was higher when the number of pages was small due to the influence of surface tension. The adhesion strength was higher when using eco-friendly hot melt than when using general hot melt. All the samples of the binding method composed of pull-out book showed more than the standard results. At this time, the adhesion was high when a separate book was in the front. Through this study, it was confirmed that the perfect binding method affects the quality of the book, such as the type of hot melt adhesive, the direction of printing, the type of paper, the number of pages, and the location of the separate book. Therefore, if we grasp the characteristics of the above-described perfect binding and conduct continuous research on the quality, I expected that the product can be produced with an effective method. Since there have been few cases in Korea that have conducted research on perfect binding so far, I thought that if more research is continuously conducted based on the data obtained in this study, the quality of the book binding, which is the final stage of publishing can be further improved.

일반 제책 및 책속의 책을 포함한 책의 제책에 사용되는 핫멜트 접착제의 종류별 흡 수 특성을 분석하고, 접착 강도 측정 결과를 바탕으로 제책 품질을 조사하였다. PUR 핫멜트 접착제는 일반 핫멜트 및 친환경 핫멜트 접착제에 비해 접착제 흡수율이 낮았 고, 접착력도 낮은 결과를 보였다. PUR 핫멜트 접착제의 특성을 고려하여 비목재지와 MFC 교과서 용지의 접착력을 비교한 결과 종이의 흡수성이 우수한 비목재지의 접착력 이 더 높게 나타났다. 무선철 제책 방식과 책속의 책을 포함한 책의 제책 방식 모두 표면 장력의 영향으로 페이지 수가 적을수록 접착력이 높게 나타났다. 접착력은 일반 핫멜트 접착제를 사용할 때보다 친환경 핫멜트 접착제를 사용할 때 더 높았다. 책속의 책을 포함한 책의 제책 방식의 모든 샘플은 표준 이상의 결과를 보였다. 본 연구를 통해 무선철 제책 방식이 핫멜트 접착제의 종류, 인쇄 방향, 종이의 종류, 페이지 수, 분리된 책의 위치 등 책의 품질에 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 위와 같은 무선철 제책의 특성을 파악하고 품질에 대한 지속적인 연구를 한다면 효과 적인 방법으로 제품을 생산할 수 있을 것으로 기대하였다. 지금까지 우리나라에서 무선철 제책에 대한 연구를 수행한 사례가 거의 없기 때문에 본 연구에서 얻은 데이터를 바탕으로 더 많은 연구가 지속적으로 이루어지면 출판의 마지막 단계인 제책의 품질 향상이 더욱더 개선될 것이다.
