There has been almost no research done on John Charles Ryle’s preaching, despite being considered one of the greatest 19th-century preachers. Hence, it is worthwhile to research about Ryle’s life and his sermons. Ryle ministered in the Victorian era which had a stable government and made splendid economic and scientific improvements. However, the rise of Darwin’s evolutionism and historical criticism severely shook the authority of the Bible and the faith of traditional Christian churches. Furthermore, in this period, philosophical and grandiose sermons were dominant and the erratic, flamboyant methods in preaching were rising. Still, Ryle stood against these currents and did expository preaching in the authority of the Scripture as the revelation of God. Based on the precise interpretation of the Bible, Ryle’s preaching was concise and was clearly logical. Furthermore, Ryle had a deep interest in the congregation’s troubled lives and aptly applied the Biblical truth. The two pillars, Ryle’s preaching focuses on, are the revelation of God and the congregation. These remind the importance of two duties, conviction and faithfulness to the revelation of the word and how to preach to the congregation in the ever-changing era, to today’s preachers facing the same challenges.

Ryle의 설교가 관심하는 두 가지 기둥, 곧 계시의 말씀과 청 중에 대한 관심은 현대 설교자들에게 동일한 도전, 곧 계시에 대한 확신 과 신실함, 그리고 변화하는 시대 속에 어떻게 회중의 귀에 들리는 설교 를 할 것인가 하는 두 가지 임무의 중요성을 상기시켜 준다.
