Along with the recent increase of the number of convenience stores, shoplifting has become a serious social problem which causes economic and resource loss. It is a relatively common crime type committed by adolescents, and active discussion is required as it is seen as a preventable crime. This study focused on the crimepreventive aspects of package design for a safer society. In addition to the existing commercial package design, the importance of discussion of crime prevention design became more significant in the present time of transition to a digital society. The purpose of this study is to analyze crime prevention package design strategy centered on ‘Design Against Crime’ in the UK, which is one of the earliest cases of crime prevention package design, and to suggest a direction to apply to the store environment in South Korea. Crime theories and theories of CPTED were examined and 8 design outcomes from the ‘Design Against Crime’ were analyzed. The study concluded that it is important to understand the behaviors of the stakeholders related to crime including the offenders and victims, and reducing the desire to commit crimes by adding risk factors when committing.

매장절도는 최근 편의점 급증 현상과 함께 경제 적·자원적 손실을 일으키는 심각한 사회문제가 되고 있다. 비교적 청소년층에서 다수 발생하고 있으므로 예방적 대책에 대한 논의는 더욱 필요하다. 본 연구 는 안전한 사회를 위한 범죄예방 역할을 디자인 분야, 특히 매장절도 방지를 위한 패키지디자인을 통한 예 방적 측면에 초점을 맞춰 진행되었다. 기존 상업적 패키지디자인의 기능과 목적에 더해 범죄의 예방적 요소가 고려된 디자인 관련 논의는 디지털사회로의 전환중인 현시점에서 중요한 사회적 의미가 있다. 범죄예방디자인 프로젝트를 선도적으로 진행하고 있는 해외사례 중 영국‘Design Against Crime’을 중심으로 범죄예방 패키지디자인 전략을 추출하여, 국내 매장 환경에 적용할 방향성을 제안하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 범죄이론 및 CPTED에 관련 문헌 고찰을 통 해 디자인 분석의 핵심적 내용을 파악했으며 해당 프로 젝트에 참여한 디자인 결과물 8개를 선별해 분석한 결 과, 범죄자와 피해자를 포함해 범죄와 관련된 이해관 계자의 행동과 심리 등을 파악하는 것이 선행되고 범 죄행동 시 위험요소를 추가해 범죄욕구를 저하시키는 전략이 요구된다는 결론을 추출했다.
