This study aims to examine the Kim Chang-Hŭp 金昌翕's civil examination poems 科詩in the context of the history of the Exam Writing 科文in the late seventeenth century. The period around 1670 when Kim Chang-Hŭp was preparing for the Jinsa exam 進士試was a critical moment for the Chosŏn examination and education system since Chosŏn was reorganizing them after consecutive wars against Japan and China. In this process of rebuilding, they focused on strengthening operational ties between examination and education so that they might properly select talented officials from public schools in Seoul. These attempts changed, as a result, the examination culture as well as the style of exam writings. This paper explores Kim Chang-Hŭp's civil examination poems in the sense that his examination poems reflect cultural reality at that time and his reaction to this reality. Firstly, this paper examines the historical and cultural backgrounds related to the civil examination system in Chosŏn as well as its writing style. Through this, it lays the contextual foundation for approaching his works. Secondly, it deals with the primary sources of his examination poems. By classifying his works according to various criteria, it organizes materials for further analysis in-depth and investigates the general tendencies of his works. Thirdly, it analyzes choices of subjects, literary styles and dispositions of contents in his works to find characteristics. Considering the similarities and the differences with others' works, it places his examination poems in a historical and cultural context.

본 연구는 17세기 후반 삼연(三淵) 김창흡(金昌翕) 과시(科詩)를 조선 과문 사(科文史)의 맥락에서 살펴보는 것을 목표로 한다. 김창흡이 진사시(進士試)를 준비하던 1670년을 전후한 시기는 조선에서 과거제도와 관련한 중요한 변화가 일 어나던 시기였다. 연속된 전쟁으로 느슨해진 학교․과거 제도가 정비되어, 서울 의 성균관과 사부학당을 중심으로 과거제도와 학교제도가 연계되어 운영되기 시 작하였다. 과문(科文)에 있어서도, 각 과문체들이 형식화되고 규식화되는 경향이 뚜렷하게 관찰되는 시기이다. 김창흡은 과시를 잘 쓰는 것으로 당대에도 이름이 났고, 후대 과시 모음집에 많은 작품들을 수록하고 있으며, 문집에도 많은 수의 과시를 남겼다. 김창흡의 과시는 20세 이전에 창작한 것으로 생각되는데, 이 과시 에 대한 검토를 통해, 당대 과문, 더 나아가 과거 시험과 관련된 일련의 문화들을 관찰할 수 있다. 부수적으로는 김창흡의 젊은 시절 대면하고 있던 시작(詩作)과 관련된 현실과 제한, 또 그에 관한 문제의식 등을 관찰할 수 있다. 본고에서는 첫째, 김창흡이 해당 과시를 창작할 무렵, 당대 과거제도, 과문과 관련된 역사․문화적 배경을 고찰한다. 이를 통해 김창흡의 과시를 역사적 맥락 하에서 바라볼 수 있는 토대를 마련한다. 둘째, 김창흡이 남긴 과시 자료들을 정리 하여, 분석 자료를 확보한다. 자료들을 다양한 기준에 의해 분류해 봄으로써, 김 창흡 과시의 경향과 특이점 등을 도출한다. 셋째, 김창흡 과시가 갖는 특성과 그 경향에 대해 분석한다. 김창흡의 과시는 당시의 ‘일반적’ 과시의 역사적 경향과 특 징들을 준거로 분석될 것이다. 이와 같은 연구를 통해, 17세기 후반 과시의 역사 적 동향과 현실, 그리고 여타 문화 요소들 사이의 영향관계 연구의 토대를 제시할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
