This study attempts a more comprehensive comparison by including intangible cultural heritage as well as tangible cultural heritage, which has been the mainstay of inter-Korean cultural heritage exchanges, focusing on the North and South Gangwon-do regions. First, the area around Mt. Geumgang has a wealth of intangible heritage such as oral tradition and food culture as well as tangible cultural heritage. On the other hand, in the north of Gangwon-do, relics related to seowon and hyanggyo related to the ruling class of the Joseon Dynasty are very rare as feudal remnants, but many fortresses and beacons that symbolize Juche's history through battle with foreign enemies have been designated. Next, in the case of intangible cultural heritage, it is expected that Arirang, as well as regional folk songs, mask dances, and folk games, will become the focal point for mutual exchange. In addition, the exchange of food culture between South and North Korea can be said to be a notable field that can reflect the ecology and culture of Gangwon-do, which is connected to the mountains and sea. Finally, in order to implement these projects, Gangwon-do should be the center to establish a governance of cooperation that can link the legislation of the Peace Special Self-Governing Province and various institutions. In particular, with the Gangwon Provincial Office as the center, a consultative body should be formed in which local universities, various private organizations, and civic groups can participate.

본 연구는 남북 강원도 지역을 중심으로 두 지역의 문화유산을 비교하고 이를 토대로 상호 교류 방안을 마련하는 데 있다. 먼저 북강원 지역에서 문화유 산이 집중된 지역으로 금강산을 들 수 있다. 금강산은 유형문화유산 뿐만 아니 라 구비전승과 음식문화와 같은 비물질문화유산과 명승, 천연기념물의 자연유 산이 집중된 지역이다. 금강산과 마찬가지로 설악산과 같은 명산을 중심으로 한 조사와 연구를 통해 문화유산의 보고로서 남북 강원도를 비교해 볼 수 있을 것이다. 그 다음 무형문화유산의 경우는 현재 지정된 분야보다 비지정된 분야에 서의 상호교류가 기대된다. 특히, 아리랑을 비롯해 각 지역별 민요와 탈춤, 민속놀이 등이 상호간 교류에 있어 구심점이 될 것으로 기대된다. 이러한 유무 형의 문화유산에 대한 관심은 분단으로 미완성된 강원도의 역사와 문화를 통합 시키는 일조할 수 있을 것이다. 궁극적으로 남북 강원지역의 문화유산 연구는 자연과 역사, 인문과 사회 연구를 총체적으로 다룰 수 있는 강원학 연구의 영지를 확장시키는 데 기여할 수 있다.
