Within One Faith, we all christians who believe in Jesus Christ meet in one place where Gospel is proclaimed. This study aims to articulate the meaning of both ‘mission’ and ‘evangelization’ appeared in the document of Roman Catholic Church. Those document analysed in this paper are Ad Gentes, Evangeli Nuntiandi, Redemptoris Missio and Evangelii Gaudium. In this research not only the context in which these documents had been written but the underlying theology of each document were examined. Through this study, mission is understood as a witness of Gospel in daily life and also as a proclamation of Gospel, while object of missions includes non-christian of course, those who leaved the Church and also those who are living a life of faith. According to the documents examined in this study, evangelization is the fruit and final ends of missionary activity. In other words, the purpose of evangelization is bringing about the conversion in the criteria of judgement, determining values, lines of thoughts so that enable them to live in the reign of God.

하나의 신앙을 고백하는 그리스도교인 모두는 예수가 그리스도이심을 선포하는 자리에서 만난다. 본 연구는 선교라는 공동과제를 전망하며 로마 가톨릭교회의 선교관련 문헌-『교회의 선교활동에 관한 교령』, 『현대의 복 음선교』, 『교회의 선교사명』, 『복음의 기쁨』-에 나타나는 선교와 복음화의 의미를 정리하였다. 문헌이 작성된 시기의 배경과 신학을 살펴보는 가운데 추출한 내용에 따르면, 선교는 말씀 선포뿐만이 아니라 모든 그리스도인이 복음화를 위해 경주하는 일상의 증거를 지시한다. 이때 선교의 대상은 비 그리스도인만이 아니라 교회를 떠난 사람과 교회 안에 머물며 하느님께 보 다 가까이 가려는 모든 이를 포함한다. 한편, 본 연구는 교회 문헌에 따르 면, 선교의 결실이자 목표는 복음화(evangelization), 곧 복음의 힘으로 개 인과 문화의 가치관, 양심, 활동의 회심을 불러일으켜 그리스도인의 삶으 로 하느님나라를 지금 여기에서 살아가도록 이끄는 여정을 의미한다고 정 리한다. 이러한 교회의 선교 이해에서 교회를 통한 구원의 필요성은 결코 포기되거나 약화됨 없이 견지된다는 점도 분명히 나타난다.
