This article reinterprets public theology from the perspective of self-reflection and maturity of Korean Christianity. It is an attempt to read public theology as a platform for self-reflection, not a channel for disrespect to Korean Christianity. To this end, this paper asks, “Can Korean Christianity escape from ‘prosperous spirituality’?” It is to suggest a transition from 'prosperous spirituality' to 'social spirituality' by applying a broad concept of spirituality that encompasses beliefs, actions, attitudes, and values. This means that the self-portrait of Korean Christianity, which is losing its social spirituality by obsessing over prosperous spirituality, is to be self-reflecting through the awareness of task for overcoming the privatization of faith. The process of pursuing the self-reflection of Korean Christianity through public theology is not limited to the deprivatization-thesis. In addition to overcoming the privatization of faith immersed in prosperous spirituality, we must also move toward social spirituality that realizes the publicness of the gospel, interested in public responsibility and communication. Moreover, efforts are needed to confirm that public theology is not unfamiliar or uncomfortable to Korean Christianity and to lead them to actively pay attention to public faith. In particular, it is necessary to connect public faith with interest in discipleship. The task to move from prosperous spirituality to social spirituality is based on the discipleship of Jesus Christ, and public faith should be recognized as belonging to the practice of social discipleship.

이 글은 공공신학을 한국기독교의 자성과 성숙이라는 관점에서 재해석 한다. 이것은 공공신학을 한국기독교에 대한 ‘디스’의 통로가 아니라 자성 을 위한 플랫폼으로 읽어내려는 시도이다. 이를 위해, “한국기독교는 ‘잘되는 영성’을 벗어날 수 있을까?”를 질문한다. 신념과 행동 및 태도와 가치관 을 포괄하는 넓은 의미의 영성 개념을 적용하여, ‘잘되는 영성’에서 ‘사회적 영성’(social spirituality)으로의 전환을 제언하기 위함이다. 잘되는 영성에 집착하여 사회적 영성을 상실하고 있는 한국기독교의 자화상을 ‘신앙의 사 사화’(私事化, privatization) 극복이라는 문제의식을 통하여 자성하자는 뜻이다. 공공신학을 통하여 한국기독교의 자성을 추구하는 과정은 사사화 극복 의 문제 혹은 ‘탈사사화 테제’에 국한되지 않는다. 잘되는 영성에 함몰된 신 앙의 사사화를 극복해야 하는 것은 물론이고, 공적 책임과 소통에 관심하 며 복음의 공공성을 구현하는 사회적 영성으로 나아가야 한다. 이와 더불어, 공공신학이 한국기독교에 낯설거나 불편한 사항이 아님을 확인하고 공적 신앙에 적극적으로 관심하도록 이끌어주는 노력이 필요하다. 특히, 공적 신앙을 제자도에 대한 관심과 연결짓는 과정이 필요하다. 잘되는 영성 에서 사회적 영성으로 나아가야 할 책무는 예수 그리스도의 제자도에 근거 한 것으로서, 공적 신앙은 사회적 제자도의 실천에 속한다는 인식을 가져 야 한다.
