In recent years, there have been active discussions on “public missiology”. Missiology and public theology have ample areas of interaction due to their shared interests in the world or the public, their in-depth engagements with various other academic disciplines, and the foci on the kingdom of God and Missio Dei respectively. In this article, I shall first, briefly discuss some of the characteristics of public theology; second, examine some of the key concepts and shared methodologies for social engagements of both theologies; and third, argue the importance and possible contributions of public missiology to general theology in the contemporary secular and multicultural contexts.

최근 선교학회에는 공적 선교학(public missiology)에 대한 토론이 진 행되고 있다. 선교학과 공공신학은 서로 교류할 수 있는 부분이 많이 있는 데 그 근거로는 두 신학의 관심이 공적영역에 해당하는 하나님의 세상에 있다는 것이며 신학의 방법론에서 여러 다양한 학문과 교류하는 점 그리고 하나님 나라와 하나님의 선교에 신학의 관심이 있다는 점이다. 이 논문에 서 저자는 먼저 공공신학의 몇 가지 주요 특징을 토의하고, 두번째는 선교 학과 공공신학이 사회에 참여하는 데 도움이 되는 방법을 논의하며, 이어 서 세 번째로 세속 및 다문화 사회의 맥락에서 공적 선교학의 중요성을 논 하고 신학에의 기여에 대한 중요성을 제안 할 것이다
