Background: Our society no longer sees the 60s as old age due to the extension of life expectancy and healthy lifespan. Practically, the 60s are a generation of pre-seniors who are in the process of aging, a time when they need to prepare for successful aging. Purpose: This study examines the choices and learning experiences of two women in their 60s who live their lives subjectively while refusing to age anymore, and explores the implications of graduate admission. Methodology/Approach: Through case studies among qualitative research methods, we want to uncover the meaning of the experience of participating in graduate learning based on information collected in a time-and-space context over time. Findings/Conclusions: First, two women in their 60s entered graduate school as they passed middle age to live a life that would benefit others through the invitations around them and the more valuable and rewarding work they had done throughout their lives. Second, the participants initially had a hard time keeping up with their young motivations in terms of physical and cognitive efficiency, but they did not give up and continued to participate in the learning. It also leads to transitional learning that incorporates a variety of accumulated life experiences as we move beyond middle age. Third, the meaning of the learning experience of the participants was to experience a change in the way they viewed themselves and their lives, and it emerged as a process that led to a deeper spirituality, to discovering the value of existence, and to self-integration. Implications: It will raise the need for a new perspective on old age, while at the same time providing concrete help to those who are preparing for adaptive and successful aging through new challenges at the turn of their lives. Furthermore, it is expected to be an implication for the education of counseling and filial piety practice among the elderly, which is expected to increase in the future.

배경: 우리 사회는 기대수명 및 건강수명의 연장으로 60대는 더 이상 노년기로 바라보지 않게 되었다. 실 질적으로 60대는 노화의 과정에 있는 예비 노인 세대로 성공적 노화를 위해 준비를 해야 하는 시기에 해 당한다. 목적: 이에 본 연구는 더 이상 노년이기를 거부하며 자신의 삶을 주체적으로 살아가는 60대 두 여성 노 인의 대학원 입학의 선택과 학습의 경험을 살펴보고 그 의미를 탐색하고자 한다. 방법론/접근: 질적연구방법 중 사례연구를 통해 시간의 경과에 따라 시·공간적 맥락 속에서 수집된 정 보를 토대로 대학원 학습 참여 경험의 의미를 밝히고자 한다. 결과/결론: 첫째, 60대 두 여성은 중년기를 지나며 주변의 권유와 자신이 평생 해오던 일의 영역 가운데 보다 가치 있고 보람 있는 일을 통해 타인에게 도움이 되는 삶을 살아가고자 대학원에 진학하게 되었다. 둘째, 참여자들은 처음엔 체력적으로나 인지적 효율 면에서 젊은 동기들을 따라가기 힘들었지만, 포기하 지 않고 꾸준히 학습에 참여하였다. 또한 중년기를 넘어가며 누적된 다양한 삶의 경험들이 통합되어 가 는 전환학습을 하기에 이르게 된다. 셋째, 참여자들 학습경험의 의미는 자신과 삶을 바라보는 태도에 변 화를 경험하게 되었고, 깊은 영성으로 나아가며 존재에 대한 가치를 발견하고 자아 통합에 이르는 과정 으로 나타났다. 시사점: 노년기에 대한 새로운 관점의 필요성을 제기함과 동시에 삶의 전환기에 새로운 도전을 통해 적 응적이고 성공적 노화를 준비하려는 이들에게 구체적인 도움을 제공할 수 있을 것이다. 나아가 향후 증 가될 것으로 예측되는 고령층의 상담전공 교육 및 효실천에 대한 시사점이 될 것으로 기대된다.
