This study empirically analyzes the effect of an increase in the regional trade share on the economic growth of East Asian countries, using the fixed-effect model of panel data analysis, and discusses the implications for economic integration in East Asia. To this end, this study establishes an estimation model based on the endogenous growth theory, similar to the prior studies analyzing the growth experiences in East Asian countries. As a result of empirical analysis, it was found that an increase in the regional trade share has a positive effect on the economic growth of East Asian countries. This result of the analysis suggests that the establishment of an economic integration system under the ASEAN+3 regime is necessary for the sustainable growth of East Asian countries. However, while China favors the promotion of East Asian integration under the ASEAN+3 regime, Japan is reluctant, fearing the loss of regional leadership. Since the Korea-Japan FTA can serve as a counterbalance to the China-Japan relations in the current situation in which the Korea-China FTA has been concluded, the conclusion of the Korea-Japan FTA and close economic cooperation between the two countries can be evaluated as a prerequisite for promoting East Asian integration.

본 연구는 한중일 3국과 ASEAN 회원국들을 포괄하는 동아시아 경제권에서 역내무 역비중의 증가가 성장에 미치는 효과를 패널자료를 이용하여 실증분석하고, 이에 기초 해서 동아시아 경제통합을 위한 시사점을 논한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 동아시아 국가 들의 경제성장 경험을 분석하는 기존 연구들과 마찬가지로 내생적 성장이론에 기초한 추정모형을 설정한다. 실증분석 결과, 역내무역비중의 증가는 동아시아 국가들의 경제 성장에 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석결과는 ASEAN+3 체제의 경제통합체 구축이 동아시아 국가들의 지속적 성장을 위해 필요함을 시사한다. 그러나 ASEAN+3 체제의 동아시아 경제통합 추진은 중국이 선호하는 방안이기는 하나 역내 주도권 상실을 우려하는 일본이 꺼려하는 방안이다. 한중FTA가 체결된 현 상황에서 한일FTA 체결은 중일 역관계에 균형추 역할을 수행할 수 있기 때문에, 한일 간 FTA 체결 및 양자 간 긴밀한 경제협력은 동아시아 경제통합 추진을 위한 전제조건이라고 평가할 수 있다.
