The purpose of this study was to find out the academic and professionalism of eSports. To this end, literature related to eSports studies was studied. The results are as follows. First, eSports is a discipline. The conditions required to become a discipline are research subject, research method, and body of knowledge. sSports studies can justify the claim that it is a discipline because it satisfies all the conditions for the academic. Second, eSports instructors secure expertise. An expert who can teach and utilize eSports knowledge can be named an eSports instructor (tentative name). Conditions for eSports instructors to secure expertise as experts include presentability, popularity, and subjectivity. All of these conditions are met by eSports instructors. Therefore, eSports instructors can be said to be experts. However, the reality is that eSports instructors have not yet been officially recognized for their expertise, so it is a task to be solved. If eSports instructors teach eSports properly, eSports culture lays the foundation for development. Therefore, in order to pursue economic benefits as a product, attention and research are needed as an expert as a discipline, not only in the eSports industry.

이 연구의 목적은 e스포츠학의 학문성과 전문성을 알아보는 것이다. 이를 위하여 e스포츠학 관련 문헌을 연구하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, e스포츠학은 학문인가이다. 하나의 학문이 되기 위해서 요구되는 조건은 연구 대상과 연구 방법 그리고 독특한 지식체이다. e스포츠학은 학문의 조건을 모두 충족하기 때문에 하나의 학문이라는 주장을 정당화할 수 있다. 둘째, e스포츠학은 전문성을 확보하고 있는가이다. e스포츠 지식을 가르치고 활용할 수 있는 전문 가를 e스포츠지도사(가칭)라고 명명할 수 있다. e스포츠지도사가 전문가로서 전문성을 확보하기 위한 조건은 현재성, 대중성, 주체성 등이다. 이들 모든 조건을 e스포츠지도사는 충족하고 있다. 따라서 e스포츠지도사는 전문가라고 할 수 있다. 하지만 현실은 e스포츠지도사가 공식적으로 전문성을 인정받지 못하고 있다는 것이다. 만약 e스포츠지도사가 e 스포츠를 제대로 가르친다면, e스포츠문화는 발전할 토대를 마련하는 것이다. 따라서 e스포츠를 하나의 상품으로 경 제적 이익을 추구하기 위해 e스포츠산업에서만 주목하는 것이 아니라 하나의 학문으로서, 하나의 전문가로서 관심과 연구가 필요하다.
