The reason for the introduction of the autonomous police system is closely related to the ideology of local autonomy guaranteed by the Constitution, and the democracy of security administration that reflects the participation of residents and the autonomy of local communities is key. Against this background, the main affairs of the self-governing police in Korea are centered on resident-friendly and public security. It is expected that the self-governing police will need the interest, understanding, cooperation, and participation of local communities and local residents to secure the security of the local community and solve various problems. This study aims to derive implications and provide basic data for the development of autonomous police by using the search volume related to autonomous police before and after the introduction of the autonomous police system, news, and SNS. According to the research results, first, search volume and news volume increased according to specific issues, but after the introduction of the system, search volume decreased while news volume increased. It can be understood that a large number of news are derived according to various issues about the autonomous police system, apart from people's interest. In order to attract local residents' attention and help them understand, efforts should be accompanied by exploring and applying promotional means other than media reports, and measures to secure finances to prepare an environment in which various policy methods can be proposed. Second, it can be inferred that there is still a lack of understanding and many questions about the autonomous police in that keywords related to form, timing, and method of introduction were highlighted through analysis of keywords related to news search before and after the introduction of the autonomous police. In order to enhance the public's understanding of the autonomous police and to establish a stable settlement, the government and related ministries should increase state support of cities and provinces and expand the authority of provincial governors to provide a foundation for operating in accordance with the purpose of the system. In addition, it is necessary to make efforts to dispel concerns by preparing measures to compensate for the shortcomings of the autonomous police system. Third, before and after the introduction, people's perception of the autonomous police was found to have changed positively on SNS, and it can be interpreted as expressing expectations for the autonomous police not long after the system was implemented. Therefore, in order for local police to dispel people's concerns and meet the expectations expressed, it will be necessary to supplement legal and institutional devices to secure the expertise and internalization of local police, including related ministries and institutions.

자치경찰제의 도입 이유는 헌법에서 보장하는 지방자치의 이념과 밀접한 관련이 있고, 주민의 참여와 지역 공동체의 자율성을 반영하는 치안 행정의 민주성이 핵심적인 내용이 다. 이러한 배경으로 우리나라 자치경찰의 주요 사무는 주민밀착형, 민생치안 중심으로 이루어져 있다. 자치경찰이 지역사회의 치안을 확보하고, 다양한 문제를 해결하기 위해서 지역 공동체 및 지역주민들의 관심과 이해, 협조와 참여가 필요할 것으로 예상한다. 본 연구는 자치경찰제의 도입 전후의 자치경찰 관련 검색량과 뉴스, SNS의 빅데이터를 활용해 시사점을 도출하고 자치경찰 발전에 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 연구결과에 따 르면 첫째, 특정 이슈에 따라 검색량과 뉴스량이 증가하였지만, 제도 도입 이후 검색량은 줄어든 반면 뉴스량은 증가하였다. 이는 사람들의 관심과는 별개로 자치경찰제에 대한 다 양한 이슈에 따라 많은 수의 뉴스들이 파생된다는 것으로 이해될 수 있다. 지역주민들의 관심을 끌어내고 이해를 돕기 위해서는 언론 보도 이외의 홍보수단을 탐색·적용하고, 다 양한 정책적 방법이 제시될 수 있는 환경을 마련하기 위한 재정확보 방안 등의 노력이 수반 되어야 할 것이다. 둘째, 자치경찰의 도입 전후 뉴스검색 연관 키워드 분석을 통해 도입의 형태나 시기, 어떻게 도입됐는지와 관련된 키워드가 부각 된 것으로 볼 때, 아직 자치경찰에 대한 이해 도가 부족하고, 많은 궁금증이 있는 것으로 유추해 볼 수 있다. 자치경찰에 대한 국민의 이해도를 높이고, 안정적으로 정착되게 하기 위해선 정부와 관련 부처의 충분한 소통을 통해 시도의 국가지원을 늘리고, 시도지사의 권한을 확대하여 제도 취지 맞게 운영될 수 있는 기틀을 마련하여야 한다. 또한, 자치경찰제의 단점들을 보완할 수 있는 대비책을 마 련하여 우려를 불식시키는 노력이 필요할 것으로 판단된다. 셋째, 도입 전후 자치경찰에 대한 사람들의 인식이 SNS상에서나마 긍정적으로 변화된 것으로 나타났으며, 제도가 시행된 지 얼마 되지 않은 시점에서의 자치경찰에 대한 기대 감을 나타낸 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 따라서 향후 자치경찰이 사람들의 우려를 불식시키 고, 나타낸 기대감을 충족시키기 위해 관련 부처와 기관을 비롯한 각시도 자치경찰의 전 문성 및 내실화 확보를 위한 법적·제도적 장치의 보완이 필요할 것이다.
