In light of relation, preaching can be defined as “a personal transaction” by God’s grace. The encounter brings about the event of hearing the word of God because of relational and personal God. This paper argues that authentic preaching comes from the preacher’s experience of hearing God’s word. For this reason, preachers need to hear God’s word while reading and studying their sermon texts, in order that their listeners may hear it through their sermons. The author deals with such questions as ‘how preachers can hear God’s word through their studies of sermon texts?’ or ‘what practices or guidelines they should follow for their text reading or studying?’ It suggests that lectio divina, sacred reading, will be a very helpful practice for preachers who want to prepare for and preach their sermons with the word which God speaks through their texts. Lectio divina is an ancient practice of reading and meditating the Bible with prayer. It enables preachers to promote the encounter with God and listen to the word of God through a text as well. For the event of hearing God’s word by way of studying sermon texts for preaching, the paper provides preachers with the three preachers’ homiletical suggestions of how to read and study Biblical texts for preaching. The three are John R. W. Stott, J. Kent Edwards and Lisa K. Cressmann. Their homiletical options in the process of sermon preparation will help preachers effectively deliver their sermons in the pulpit after hearing God’s word through Bible study.

관계적인 측면에서 설교는 하나님의 은혜로 발생하는 하나님과 인간의 만남이라고 정의 할 수 있다. 모세, 바울과 같은 성경 인물들에게서 보듯이, 이런 만남은 인간에게 하나님의 말씀 들음의 사건을 초래한다. 본고는 참되고 진실한 설교는 설교자의 이런 말씀 들음에 근거하고 있다고 주장한다. 또한 본고는 설교를 듣는 청중이 참되고 진실한 설교를 통해 하나님의 말씀 들음을 경험하도록 하기 위해서는 먼저 설교자가 자신의 성경 연구를 통해 이런 말씀 들음을 경험해야 할 필요가 있다고 주장한다. 필자는 설교를 위한 본문 연구를 통해 설교자가 하나님을 만나 하나님의 말씀을 듣기 위한 성경 읽기 방법으로, 고대 교부들로부터 내려온 ‘렉시오 디비나’(lectio divina)를 활용 할 것을 제안한다. 독서, 묵상, 기도, 관상이라는 네 단계 또는 네 측면으로 구성된 렉시오 디비나는 성경 본문을 통해 하나님과 만나 하나님의 말씀을 들을 수 있도록 고안된 의도적 인 성경 묵상법이다. 설교를 위한 본문 연구에서 렉시오 디비나의 주요한 특징들을 활용하 고 있는 설교 방법의 사례로 존 스토트(John R. W. Stott), 켄트 에드워즈(J. Kent Edwards), 리사 K. 크레스만(Lisa K. Cressmann)의 설교 방법을 소개한다. 렉시오 디비나 의 특징들을 활용 방식에 있어서 차이는 있을지라도, 그들 모두는 렉시오 디비나의 주요한 특징들을 공유하고 있다. 이들의 방법론적 제안을 따라, 설교자들이 먼저 하나님의 말씀 들음을 경험한 후에, 그 경험에 근거하여 하나님의 말씀을 전달하는 효과적이고 생명력 있는 설교를 할 수 있기를 소망한다.
