Since suffering is a part of our lives, it is an essential that is be dealt with in our sermons. The complexity and mystical aspect of suffering pose great challenges for preachers as well as congregations. Although the causes of suffering are complex and cannot be interpreted and understood from a single point of view, preachers often approach the causes or interpretations of suffering by reducing them to personal matters or the result of sin. Sometimes, overemphasis on the victory of God conveys the gospel from a closed perspective and over-generalizes multiple and complex life contexts. In this respect, the Christian metanarrative, ‘creation-fall-redemption-recreation,’ proclaimed in a linear structure, may run the risk of justifying or downplaying human suffering and brokenness, even though it contains the core of Christian faith. Also, in sermons, the metanarrative can provide a fixed frame, use inadequate language, or apply too narrow a lens for dealing with suffering. In doing so, the metanarrative silences and ignores the experiences that do not fit into it, such as expressing and testifying to suffering. This study presents a narrative of suffering as a counternarrative to create tension with the metanarrative. This polar concept is examined in Paul Scott Wilson's theological and homiletical grammar, ‘Trouble-Grace.’ Wilson’s notion of polar thoughts helps us to understand how lament can play a role in dealing with suffering as a counternarrative that creates tension and makes a connection between suffering and hope. This study also focuses on how lament is mutual in preaching. As an ethic in practice, lament in preaching means to listen to the lost voice of suffering that has been silenced and ignored, to express it, and to participate in each other’s pain. This study considers the ethics of listening to each other’s suffering and hospitality as a way of realizing lament in a community of mutuality without power-relation. This study examines how lament reveals the relationships of different powers in recounting one’s experiences of suffering, and how all experiences and voices of suffering contribute to building a community that can be recognized as part of the faith and the Christian narrative.

고통은 우리 삶의 일부이며 설교에서 다루어 져야할 필수적인 부분임에도 불구하고, 고통의 복잡함과 신비로움은 회중들 뿐만 아니라 설교자들에게 큰 도전이 되어 왔다. 왜냐 하면 고통의 원인과 이에 대한 해석은 복잡하여 단일의 관점으로 해석하고 이해할 수 없음 에도 불구하고, 설교자들은 종종 이를 개인적인 것 혹은 죄에 관한 것으로 환원시켜 적용시 켰기 때문이다. 특별히, 승리자 하나님의 이미지에 대한 지나친 강조는 복음을 하나의 시각으로 전달하고 복합적이고 복잡한 삶의 컨텍스트를 지나치게 일반화 시켜왔다. 이러한 측면에서 선형 (linear) 의 구조로 선포되는 ‘창조-타락-구속-재창조’의 기독교 거대 서사 는 기독교 신앙의 핵심을 포함하고 있음에도 불구하고, 인간의 고통과 상처를 정당화 하거 나 경시하는 위험을 내포하고 있다. 또한 거대 서사는 설교에서 고정된 복음의 틀을 제공하거 나 삶을 바라보는 시각을 좁힐 수 있다. 그렇게 함으로써 거대 서사는 고통을 표현하고 증언하 는 것과 같은 거대 서사와 맞지 않는 다양한 경험들은 침묵시키고 무시하는 결과를 가져 올 수 있다. 따라서, 본 연구는 고통의 서사를 거대 서사와의 긴장을 조성하기 위한 반 서사 (counternarrative) 로 이해하고 이 두 서사 사이에서 역동성을 만들어내는 방식으로 애통을 제시한다. 애통이 설교에서 이러한 이중 초점 서사의 형성을 도우면서 어떻게 이 양 극과 상호작용 할 수 있는지 폴 윌슨 (Paul Scott Wilson)의 문제와 은혜(Trouble and Grace) 개념을 통해 살펴 볼 것이다. 또한 실천 윤리로써 애통은 침묵 되고 무시되었던 잃어버린 고통의 목소리에 귀를 기울이고, 그것을 표현하고, 서로의 고통에 참여하는 것을 의미한다. 이 연구는 권력 관계가 없는 상호성을 지닌 공동체로써 애통을 실천하기 위한 방법으로 듣기의 윤리와 환대의 중요성을 제시한다. 이를 통해 애통이 고통의 경험과 목소리를 믿음과 기독교 서사의 일부로 인식하는 공동체를 건설하는데 어떻게 기여하는지 보여줄 것이다.
