The current weapon system is developing into a high-precision hybrid system. Therefore, firms in the defense industry continue to accelerate research and development for up-to-date weapon systems with high complexity, which urge the firms to collaborate with the external organizations to obtain the knowledge required and eventually to reduce costs and risk. This study tries an empirical study about the effects of collaboration on the innovation performances from the network analysis perspective. By surveying collaboration relationships among 530 firms in the Korean defense industry, we analyzed the alliance network of the defense industry. The results show that most of defense industry companies are located in center of total defnese industry networks. In particular, Due to the difference in R&D capability, large companies are more central than SMEs.The individual weapon system network represented the industrial characteristics of the weapon system.. However, in the case of traps and aviation guided weapons, the degree of cooperation was low due to the high dependency of major equipment on foreign countries. These results provide evidence for the necessity of establishing the upbringing policy considering the characteristics of the defense industry weapon system.

현대전의 무기체계는 고정밀 복합체계로 발전하고 있다. 이러한 복잡도가 높은 무기체계를 연 구개발하는 방위산업관련 기업들은 상호협력을 통해 지식정보를 공유하고 개발비용을 절감하며 위험을 분산하여 감소시킨다. 본 논문은 방위산업분야에서 필연적으로 요구되는 기업간의 협력 구조를 다룬 실증연구이다. 방위산업 경영실적보고서에 나타난 방위산업 지정기업 90여개와 이들 기업의 1차 협력기업 530 개에 대한 협력관계를 조사하여 방위산업 제휴네트워크 분석을 수행하였다. 이를 통해 방위산업 전체 네트워크와 개별 무기체계별 네트워크의 연결, 근접, 매개 중심성을 분석하여 네트워크 특 성을 조사하고 무기체계별 네트워크 집중도 분석을 통하여 산업적 특성을 규명하였다. 전체 방위산업 네트워크를 살펴보면 방위산업기업들은 네트워크에서 연결 및 근접중심성이 높아 네트워크 중심에 위치하고 있었다. 특히, 체계개발을 종합하는 대기업이 중소 방산기업에 비해 중심성이 더욱 높게 나타냈다. 이는 대기업이 중소기업보다 R&D 역량이 높기 때문이다. 개별 무기체계별 네트워크는 무기체계별 산업적 특성을 나타내며 성장하였으나, 함정과 항공·유 도무기체계 네트워크는 기술력 부족으로 주요 핵심부품을 해외에서 수입함으로써 기업간의 협 력강도가 낮아 네트워크가 충분히 성장하지 못한 실정이다. 이러한 결과는 향후 엔진, 탑재장비 등 주요 구성품을 개발사업 등에 중점적으로 투자해야하는 당위성을 제공한다. 또한 향후 방위 산업 무기체계특성을 고려한 구체적인 육성정책수립 필요성에 논거를 제공할 것이다.
