This study aims to investigate the factors that affect characteristics of residential distribution by types of foreigners residing in the Republic of Korea, and the results are as follows. First, most types of foreigners in Korea were affected mainly by the number of businesses. They were significantly affected by low-rise housing such as multi-family housing and row housing. Second, the foreigners are affected by the types of businesses except for the number of manufacturing industries. Third, foreign workers tend to inhabit residential areas with a long average access time to transportation facilities. This paper proposes policy implications as follows. First, it is necessary to prepare measures to improve the living environment considering the distribution of residences by type of foreigners staying in Korea, such as areas where manufacturing is concentrated, around universities, and areas where agricultural and livestock industries are concentrated. Second, it is necessary to consider the policies for foreigners when improving the residential environment where multi-family housing and row housing are overpopulated.

본 연구는 국내 체류 외국인 유형별 거주지 분포가 어떠한 요인에 영향을 받는지 알 아보고 생활환경 개선을 위한 정책적 함의 도출을 목적으로 수행되었으며 연구 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 다중회귀분석결과 국내에 체류 중인 외국인 유형의 대부 분이 사업체 수에 가장 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났으며 대학가 기숙사 등에 거주하는 유학생을 제외한 국내 체류 외국인들은 다세대‧ 연립주택 등의 저층주거지에 영향을 많 이 받으며 생활환경은 영향을 받지 않거나 후순위로 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 둘 째, 제조업 사업체 수를 제외하고 국내 체류 외국인 유형별 영향을 미치는 사업체가 다 르게 나타나고 있다. 셋째, 외국인근로자의 경우 다른 유형과 다르게 교통시설 평균접 근시간이 먼 지역에 거주지가 분포하는 것으로 나타나는 것을 고려할 때 농·축산분야 와 관련이 있는 것으로 판단된다. 연구 결과에 대한 시사점을 도출하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 제조업 밀집지역, 대학가, 농·축산업 밀집지역 등 국내 체류 외국인 유형별 거주지 분포를 고려한 생활환경 개선 방안 마련이 필요하다. 둘째, 다세대‧ 연립주택 밀집지역의 주거환경 개선 시에는 외국 인에 대한 고려가 필요하다.
