The purpose of this paper is to present the development strategy of the University Liberal Education Research Center by introducing the operational results of Dankook University’s Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences Education(DILAS) and a specialization plan for classics education. To this end, the organization, personnel composition, research activities, and educational activities of DILAS were introduced, and specialization strategies for each step was proposed to integrate research and education classics. Founded on October 1, 2013, DILAS researches liberal arts education policy at university and national level, develops liberal arts curriculum and subjects, diagnoses and analyzes liberal arts education outcomes, develops feedback programs, and conducts various seminars related to liberal arts education. Its main businesses include holding academic conferences and publishing academic journals. DILAS has a few executives such as the director, auditor, and secretary, and has established and operated the Steering Committee and the Editorial Committee. The activities of the Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences Education can be broadly divided into research activities and educational activities. Research activities include publication of the academic journal ‘Research on Liberal Arts and Science Education’, holding domestic academic conferences, co-hosting , 2019 A Support Project for Humanities and Social Research Institute by National Research Foundation of Korea. In addition, in order to expand the base of classical education, various educational activities for students and the local community are being carried out, such as Sapere aude, reading debate contest, and humanities liberal arts lectures for local residents. DILAS has established and implemented a step-by-step development strategy with the goal of growing into a ‘research center for classical and intellectual history research and education’. In the first stage of strengthening the foundation (2019~2022), in order to strengthen the foundation for the development of the institute, it focuses on performing its original functions, such as publishing academic journals and holding academic conferences, while exploring the classical education methodology. And in the second stage of growth generator (2023~2025), there is a plan to realize the goal of the research institute specialization plan by focusing on creating practical results in the research and education of classical and intellectual history. This specialization plan of DILAS can be considered as a model for the successful operation and development of the Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences Education at universities.

이 글은 단국대학교 교양기초교육연구소의 운영 성과와 고전교육을 위한 특성화 방안을 제시함으로써 대학 교양교육연구소의 운영 모델을 모색하는 데 기여함을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위하여 단국대학교 교양기초교육연구소의 조직과 인적 구성, 연구 활동, 교육 활동을 소개하고, 고전 및 지성사 연구와 교육을 통합하기 위한 단계별 특성화 전략을 제시하였다. 2013년 10월 1일에 설립된 단국대학교 교양기초교육연구소는 대학 및 국가 수 준에서의 교양교육 정책 연구, 교양 교육과정 및 교과목 개발, 교양교육 성과 진단 및 분석, 환류 프로그램 개발, 교양교육 관련 각종 세미나와 학술대회 개최, 학술지 간행 등을 주요 사업으로 하고 있다. 교양기초교육연구소는 소장과 감사, 간사 등 약간 명의 임원을 두고 있으며, 운영위원회와 편집위원회를 설치, 운영하고 있다. 교양기초교육연구소의 활동은 연구 활동과 교육 활동으로 대별할 수 있는데, 연 구 활동으로는 학술지 󰡔교양기초교육연구󰡕의 발간, 국내 학술대회 개최, <창파강 좌>의 공동 주최, 2019년 인문사회연구소 지원사업 연구과제 수행을 들 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 고전 교육의 저변 확대를 위하여 사페레 아우데, <단국권장도서 101> 독서토론대회, 지역사회 주민을 위한 인문교양강좌 운영 등 학생과 지역사회를 위 한 다양한 교육 활동을 펼치고 있기도 하다. 교양기초교육연구소는 ‘고전 및 지성사 연구와 교육의 거점 연구소’로 성장한 다는 목표 아래 단계별 발전 전략을 수립하여 추진하고 있다. 1단계 기반 강화기 (2019~2022)에는 연구소의 발전 기반을 강화하기 위하여 학술지 발간과 학술대 회 개최 등 연구소 본연의 기능을 수행하는 데 주력하는 한편, 고전교육 방법론 을 모색한다. 그리고 2단계 성장 발전기(2023~2025)에는 고전 및 지성사 연구 와 교육의 실질적인 성과를 창출하는 데 역점을 두어 연구소 특성화 계획의 목표 를 실현한다는 계획을 가지고 있다. 교양기초교육연구소의 이러한 특성화 방안은 대학 교양기초교육연구소의 성공적인 운영과 발전을 위한 타산지석이 될 수 있을 것이다.
