This thesis, analyzing a case of walking arts fused with GPS technology, is a study to emphasize that this kind of walking arts paradoxically pursue anti-digital experiences in the digital era and have a reflective value for the present era. With the advent of digital technology in the second half of the 20th century, the aspect of human life and experiences has changed significantly. In particular, GPS technology, linked to smartphones and car navigation devices and map services, has led to great changes in the relationship between mankind and space. However, while these technologies have increased the convenience and efficiency of life, they have become a catalyst for reducing the meaning of the space to which humans belong and the value of the experience of moving. The remarkable activation of walking arts since the end of the 20th century can be interpreted as an artistic response to the culture of the digital age which is gradually becoming abstract and virtualized. In particular, the convergence of GPS and walking art is very symbolic in that it paradoxically appropriates digital technology to activate human walking. In this paper, the practical and reflective value of walking arts in the digital age was derived by analyzing Jeremy Wood's GPS Drawing as a representative example of walking art fused with digital technology.

이 논문은 GPS 기술과 융합한 보행예술의 사례를 분석함으로써 디지털 시대에 보행예술이 역설적 으로 반디지털적 경험을 추구하며 현 시대에 대한 성찰적 가치를 지님을 강조하기 위한 연구다. 20세기 후반 디지털 기술의 보편화로 인류의 삶과 경험의 양상은 크게 변화되었다. 특히 GPS 기술의 대중화는 스마트폰, 내비게이션 장치, 지도 서비스 등과 연동되며 인류가 공간과 관계 맺는 방식에 커다란 변화를 이끌었다. 그러나 이러한 기술들은 삶의 편의성과 효율성을 높여준 대신 인간이 속한 공간의 의미와 이동 경험의 가치를 축소하는 촉매제가 되기도 하였다. 20세기 말 이후 보행예술의 두드러진 활성화 양상은 점차 추상화, 가상화되어가는 디지털 시대의 문화에 대한 예술적 반응으로 해석될 수 있다. 특히 GPS와 보행예술의 융합은 디지털 기술을 보행 활성화를 위해 역설적으로 전유한다는 점에서 그 상징성이 크다. 이 논문에서는 디지털 기술과 융합한 보행예술의 대표적 사례로서 제레미 우드(Jeremy Wood)의 GPS 드로잉(GPS Drawing)을 분석하여 디지털 시대에 보행예술이 지니는 실천적, 성찰적 가치가 무엇인지 도출하였다.
