Contemporary art is a major medium in urban regeneration projects and focuses on urban formation and economic revitalization. It was an existence in the space and environment in the process of urban development which received a certain valuation and coexisted in various forms in public space, but it is also related to human life. Among them public art exerts influence on urban development and local communities and was evaluated as a model of cultural democracy. At the same time, this genre still generates a lot of controversy. Therefore this study focuses on public art in Lyon of France, where public art is systematically revealed and examines its correlation in the city. In the current situation where public art is still active as one of the cultural urban regeneration in Korean society and critical perspectives coexist, this study will be able to discuss the developmental potential of public art.

현대미술은 도시 재생 사업의 주요 매개체이며 도시 형성과 경제 부흥에 주력한다. 미술은 어떤 평가를 받아왔던 도시 발전과정에서 도시 환경 속의 존재물이었으며, 공공 공간에서 다양한 형태로 공존하면서도 인간의 삶과도 관계하고 있다. 그 가운데 공공미술은 지역 사회에 영향을 행사하며 문화 민주주의의 모델로 평가받았다. 동시에 이 분야는 여전히 많은 논쟁을 유발하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 공공미술이 한 도시에 체계적으로 드러나는 프랑스 리옹시의 공공미술에 주목하며 도시의 삶에서 공공미술의 상관관계를 알아본다. 오늘날 한국 사회에서 문화적 도시재생의 하나로 여전히 공공미술이 활성화되는 동시에 비판적인 시각이 공존하는 현 상황에서 이 연구는 공공미술의 발전적 가능성을 논의할 수 있을 것이다.
