The Nomonhan combat broke out in the area between Khalkhin-Gol and Nomonhan where the border had not yet been demarcated in 1939. This combat was a very fierce battle of Soviet-Japanese war in the 1930s, joined by Mongolian troops or Manchukuo’s troops respectively. The purpose of this paper is to researched and presented the military strategy and operations of the Soviet and Japan, which were the causes of the armed clash, operational aspects of warfighting, This combat reflected military strategy and military forces of both sides. Both countries applied modern warfare conception with aircraft and tanks. Japan is thought to have the intention to establish a bridgehead to invade China and Siberia. It seems that Soviet Russia tried to avoid two-front war and get over the sense of defeat in Russo-Japanese War in 1904-1905. And she beforehand showed the process of operations in Manchuria in August of 1945. In this combat Japanese Army had shown the incompetence that defended on manpower and will to fight. This combat was judged as one of reasons that Japan had headed on to the Pacific Ocean.
