In the view of enabling MCS, MCS can be used as motivational systems to develop empowerment and creativity. As the importance of creativity increases for the organizational success in the dynamic business environment, the interest in the role of MCS for developing creativity grows; however, most of prior research focuses on individual control systems in investigating MCS’s effectiveness, despite of the importance of integrativeMCS as a system. Already, Simons(1995) highlights the interrelationship andmutual effect of different control levers, insisting on the positive effect of MCS on developing creativity. Therefore, this study exploratory investigates the enabling role of MCS as a system rather than each individual control systems, based on Simons(1995)’s theory. This study collected data from Korean listed manufacturing companies via survey method, and analyze hypotheses with PLS structural equation model. The result shows that intensity of MCS has positive influence on creativity, while dynamic tension between each control systems of MCS does not have significant association with creativity. This study contributes to management accounting research by presenting evidence of the enabling role of MCS in the view of MCS as a control system.

권능부여적 관점에서 MCS를 바라볼 떄, MCS는 임파워먼트와 창의성을 고취시키는 동기부여적 기제로서 활용될 수 있다. 역동적인 경영환 경하에서의 조직성공을 위해 창의성의 중요성이 증대됨에 따라, 창의성 발현에 영향을 미치는 요인으로서 MCS에 대한 관심 역시 고조되었으나, 대다수의 연구는 MCS의 광범위성에도 불구하고 개별 통제시스템에 초점을 맞추어 그 역할을 조명하였다. Simons(1995)가 이미 MCS가 창의성 개발에 일조할 수 있다고 주장하며, 각 통제기제의 상호연관성과 상호작용을 설명한 바 있으므로, 본 연구에서는 시스템적 관점에 입각하여 각 각의 개별적인 통제기제의 역할보다는 시스템으로서의 MCS의 권능부여적 효과에 대하여 검증하고자 한다. 본 연구는 국내의 상장제조기업에 대한 설문조사를 통하여 수집한 자료를 토대로 실증분석을 수행하였고, PLS 구조방정식을 이용하여 가설을 검정하였다. 연구결과, 하나의 시스 템으로서 MCS의 이용강도가 높을수록 창의성이 증대됨을 확인할 수 있었고, 상이한 통제기제간의 균형을 통한 역동적 긴장은 창의성에 직접적 인 영향을 미치지는 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 시스템 관점과 패키지 관점의 두 가지 관점에서 MCS를 조명하였던 흐름에서 착안하여, 시스템적 관점에서 MCS의 권능부여적 효과를 탐색적으로 검증하였다는데 그 의의가 있을 것으로 기대된다.
