Transhumanism claims and supports human enhancement. Human enhancement means that human beings who have lots of deficient physical, psychological and intellectual limitations can overcome the genetic drawbacks through the power of machines. This article critically analyzes the human understanding of transhumanism and tries to search for the human understanding of Christianity through the lens of narrative pastoral counseling. This article summarizes the human understanding of transhumanism with three points. First, transhumanism argues that the present human condition is not ended but needs drastic betterment for evolution. Second, human enhancement will be impossible with the limited capacity of humans, and only be posssible through symbiosis and cohabitation with machines. Third, suffering, deficiency, disease, and death as natural characters of finite human beings are threats for humans, so have to be eliminated. The human understanding of transhumanism is critically analyzed through narrative pastoral counseling. First, Sufferings, deficiencies, limitations, problems, death are not objects to enhance because they are not desirable to us. They are significant components of human life. Second, machines cannot interpret past and present experiences, and give them meaning as humans do. The reason is that machines have no prior experiences and stories to communicate to humans. Third, to re-authorize alternative hope stories is humans’ specific natural traits that machines cannot be alternated. In conclusion, this article suggests that the Korean church need to rebuild a theologically proper and biblically- based human understanding in the era of artificial intelligence and the challenge of transhumanism..

트랜스휴머니즘은 신체적, 정신적, 인지적인 한계를 가진 유한한 인간이 인공지능 을 비롯한 기계의 힘을 빌려서 인간의 유전적인 약점을 극복하는, 이른바 인간 향상 (human enhancement)을 강하게 주장한다. 본 소논문은 트랜스휴머니즘의 인간이해를 이야기 목회상담의 기독교적 인간이해를 바탕으로 비판적으로 고찰하며 교회의 역할 을 모색하고자 한다. 크게 세 가지로 트랜스휴머니즘의 인간이해를 다루고 있다. 첫째, 현재의 인간 조 건은 종착점이 아니며, 진화를 향한 근본적인 개선이 필요한 대상이다. 둘째, 인간 조 건 향상은 인간의 제한적인 힘으로는 불가능하며 기계와의 공생과 상생을 통해서만 가능하다, 셋째, 유한한 존재로서 인간의 본래적 특성인 고통, 결핍, 질병, 죽음 등은 인간에게 위협이 되기에 제거해야만 한다. 이러한 트랜스휴머니즘의 인간이해를 이야기 목회상담을 가지고 분석하였다. 먼저, 고통, 결핍, 부족, 문제, 죽음 등은 우리에게 바람직하지 않는 것이기에 향상시켜야 할’ 대상이 아니다. 그러한 것들은 우리 인간의 삶의 중요한 구성 요소이기 때문이다. 둘째, 기계는 인간이 과거와 현재에 경험하는 것들을 인간처럼 해석하고 의미를 부여하 지는 못할 것이다. 왜냐하면, 상담자와 내담자 서로의 이야기와 해석적 렌즈가 연결되 어 의미를 찾아가야 하는데, 기계는 내담자인 인간과 교류할 수 있는 선험적인 경험 과 이야기를 가지고 있지 않기 때문이다. 셋째, 인간의 지나온 과거와 현재를 지배하 고 있었던 고통스러운 이야기를 대신하는 희망의 대안적 이야기를 재저작화하는 것은 기계가 대체할 수 없는 인간만이 가진 독특한 본래적 특성이다. 마지막으로, 본 논문은 트랜스휴머니즘적인 인간 이해는 “인간은 하나님의 형상을 닮아 창조되었다“는 기독교적 인간 이해에 정면으로 배치되며 제어할 수 없는 인공지 능 시대의 도래와 트랜스휴머니즘의 도전 속에서 한국교회는 신학적으로 적합하고 성경에 기초를 둔 기독교적인 인간이해를 재정립해야 할 것을 제안한다.
