The purpose of this study is to explore the educational experiences for children of Korean missionaries working abroad with their children and to propose support for the education of missionaries’ children based on this. The research method was conducted as a case study, one of the qualitative research methods. Data were collected by conducting in-depth interviews with six Korean missionaries accompanied by children in overseas missionary work. Based on the interview, cases were compared and analyzed and categorized into experiences regarding children’s learning education, emotional experiences with children, and advice through experiences of education for children. As a result, the following conclusions could be drawn. First, missionaries supported their children’s learning and helped them adapt to their studies. In addition to collecting children’s school information, they chose suitable school for their children, and tutors or missionaries directly guided insufficient learning to help them adapt to school culture different from Korea. Second, missionaries had more emotional communication with their children than in Korea. There was a sense of sorry for the children who migrated after their parents and a grateful heart of adapting well and stably self-reliance. Third, based on his experience, he gave various advice to junior missionaries who will work abroad. In the process of preparing for overseas missionary activities, children were allowed to learn in advance through various programs, and they recommend information and inspection on their children's education in advance. From these research results, it was possible to understand the difficulties and coping methods to their children’s education of Korean missionaries working abroad, and to learn about preliminary preparations for their children’s education before overseas missionary activities. In the future, we hope that these results will serve as basic data for Korean missionaries to be dispatched overseas.

본 연구는 자녀와 함께 해외에서 활동하는 한국인선교사들의 자녀교육경험을 탐색 하고 이를 바탕으로 선교사 자녀교육에 대한 지원을 제안하는 것이 목적이다. 연구방 법은 질적연구방법 중 하나인 사례 연구로 진행하였다. 해외 선교활동과정에 자녀를 동반한 선교사 6명을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 진행하여 자료를 수집하였다. 인터뷰를 기초로 사례를 비교 분석하여 자녀들의 학습교육과 관련된 경험, 자녀와의 정서적 경 험, 자녀교육경험을 통한 조언으로 범주화하였다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 내릴 수 있었다. 첫째, 선교사들은 자녀들의 학습을 지원하고 학업 적응을 도왔다. 자녀의 학교 정보 수집은 물론 자녀에게 적합한 학교를 선택하였고, 한국과 다른 학교문화 적응을 돕기 위해 튜터 또는 선교사들이 직접 부족한 학습을 지도하였다. 둘째, 선교사들은 한 국에서보다 자녀와 정서적 교감을 이루었다. 부모를 따라 이주한 자녀에게 미안함과 잘 적응하고 안정적으로 자립하는 고마움이 공존하였다. 셋째, 자신의 경험을 바탕으 로 해외에서 활동할 후배 선교사에게 다양한 조언을 하였다. 해외 선교활동 준비과정 에서 자녀들이 다양한 프로그램을 통해 선행학습을 할 수 있도록 하고, 사전에 자녀교 육에 대한 정보와 점검을 권유하였다. 이런 연구결과를 토대로 해외에서 활동하는 한 국인 선교사들의 자녀교육으로 인한 어려움과 대처방식을 이해할 수 있었으며 해외선 교활동 전 자녀교육을 위한 사전 준비사항들에 대해 알 수 있었다. 향후 이런 결과가 한국인선교사들의 해외 파송 시 기초자료가 되길 기대한다.
