The centralization of the city's population is accelerating. The percentage of population in urban areas by year is steadily increasing every year. Why does this kind of situation happen? This study was conducted to confirm this. According to prior research, the city's energy was business. The powerful force of the city was cultural tourism. It has been proven to be a historical fact that transportation plays the role of a gateway. This study identified traffic as a gateway to the city. The phrase “All roads lead to Rome.” accurately explains the expansion of the city. Rome expanded through roads, and non-Roman people entered Rome through roads and became Romanized. Rome grew like that. This study was conducted on residents of Jeonju City. The findings were largely found in two aspects. First, it is the convenience of transportation. Transportation makes convenient travel between regions. Uncomfortable transportation facilities constrain travel. It was confirmed that the population entering the city could also increase through a convenient transportation network. Second, it can be confirmed that a convenient visit by the outside population can strengthen the symbolism of the city.

도시의 인구 집중화가 가속화되고 있다. 연도별 도시지역 인구비율이 매년 꾸준히 높아지고 있다. 그렇다면 왜 이와 같은 상황이 발생하는가? 본 연구는 이를 확인하기 위 해 실행되었다. 선행 연구에 의하면 도시의 에너지는 비즈니스였다. 도시의 강력한 영향력은 문화관광이었다. 이에 대해서 본 연구는 도시의 관문적 성격으로서 교통이 있음 을 확인할 수 있었다. “모든 길은 로마로 통한다.”는 말이 도시의 확장을 정확히 설명하고 있다. 로마는 길을 통해 확장했고, 비로마인은 길을 통해 로마에 들어와 로마화되었 다. 교통의 관문적 역할은 역사적 사실로 입증되었다. 본 연구는 전주시 거주민을 대상으로 진행하였다. 연구결과는 크게 두 가지 측면에서 확인할 수 있었다. 첫째, 교통을 통한 이동의 편리성이다. 교통은 지역 간 이동을 편리하게 해준다. 불편한 교통시설은 이동을 제약한다. 이동이 편리한 교통망을 통해 도시에 유입되는 인구 역시 증가할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 외부 인구의 편리한 방문이 도시의 상징성을 강화할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.
