This review summarizes the life of Manhwa Heechan, who is referred to as the midchanger of Odaesan Buddhist culture. The manhwa was an embodyer who inherited the Buddhist tradition of Odaesan, which led to Hanam-Tanhe, and the protagonist of Woljeongsa, but the research on it was very weak. So, in this article, I want to summarize the life of comics. At the same time, I saw that the following aspects should be considered as the premise for the life of manhwa to be organized and evaluated. He reexamined the history of high priests-centered Buddhism, re-recognized the concept of high priests, and changed the narrative of longitudinal history from political history to religious history. this premise, the outline of the life of the comic book I have summarized is as follows. First, it dealt with the study of Buddhism in society before the cartoonist entered the mountain. The second is mathematics at the Odaesan Senate after entering the mountain. Here, the trainees at the Sambonsa Union Training Center and Hanam's teachings, the five principles of the Sangha. Third, it is the activity of cartoons in the Buddhist purification movement. Here, I dealt with the participation of the Buddhist purification movement in Seoul and the operation of the Odaesan Monastery in Woljeongsa Temple. Third, the contents of the establishment of the foundation of the Buddhist culture of Odaesan through the reconstruction of Woljeongsa Temple. It dealt with the process of immortality and devotion carried out by cartoons. In this process, he introduced the reality of the succession and implementation of the 5 Sangha rules. I hope this article will be used as a material to illuminate the life and thoughts of manhwa, the Buddhist culture of Odaesan, the history of Sangwon and Woljeongsa in the modern and contemporary period, and the future of Woljeongsa.

본 고찰은 오대산 불교문화의 중창주로 지칭되고 있는 만화 희찬의 삶 의 개요를 정리한 글이다. 만화는 한암 – 탄허로 이어진 오대산 불교문화 의 법맥을 계승한 구현자, 그리고 월정사를 중창한 주역이었지만 그에 대 한 연구는 매우 미약하였다. 그래서 필자는 이 글에서 만화 삶의 개요를 정리하고자 하였다. 그러면서 필자는 만화의 삶이 정리되고, 평가받기 위한 전제를 다음과 같은 측면을 고려해야 된다고 보았다. 그는 고승중심 불교사의 재검토, 고 승 개념의 재인식, 불교 종단사의 서술을 정치사에서 종교사 중심으로 전 환 등이었다. 이런 전제에서 필자가 정리한 만화 삶의 대강의 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째 만화가 입산하기 이전 사회에서의 불교 공부를 다루었다. 둘째 입산 후 오대산 상원에서의 수학이다. 여기에서는 삼본사연합수련소의 수련생과 한암의 가르침인 승가5칙의 체득이었다. 셋째, 불교정화운동에서의 만화의 활동이다. 여기에서는 서울에서 전개된 불교정화운동 참가, 월정사에 세워 진 오대산수도원의 운영을 다루었다. 셋째, 월정사 재건 사업을 통한 오대 산 불교문화 기반 구축의 내용이다. 만화가 수행한 불사 과정, 헌신을 취 급하였다. 이런 과정에서 승가5칙의 계승 및 구현의 실상을 소개하였다. 필자는 이 글이 만화의 생애와 사상, 오대산 불교문화, 근현대기 상원사 및 월정사의 역사, 월정사의 미래 등을 조명하는 자료로 활용되길 기대한다.
