This study first organizes the records of the Gwandongpalgyeong(關 東八景) shown in the magazines of the first half of the 20th century, and then examines the aspect of changes which those records have in comparison with the previous ones. The magazine articles till the mid-1920s, like those of the Joseon Dynasty, tend to handle the Gwandongpalgyeong(關東八景) as scenic spots, special places, or somewhere far away from daily life. However, there are more and more writings approaching the Gwandongpalgyeong(關東八景) in the different perspective from that of the previous time. Those writings pay attention to the Gwandongpalgyeong(關東八景) as concrete, realistic, and daily space. Diachronically, such records in the magazines have the meaning of connecting the Gwandongpalgyeong(關東八景) of the modern times to the various records of the Joseon Dynasty. Synchronically, they show how the magazine compilers or the educated public of the time perceive the Gwandongpalgyeong(關東八景). The change in the perspective of the articles on the Gwandongpalgyeong metaphorically suggests that the society of the time which admires and enjoys the sightseeing of scenic spots is also changing itself.

본 연구에서는 20세기 전반기 잡지들에 나타난 관동팔경 관련 기록들을 정리하고 전대의 기록들에 비해 어떤 변모 양상을 보이는지 고찰해 보았다. 잡지 기사를 살펴보면 1920년대 중반까지는 조선 시대까지의 기록들과 마찬가지로 관동팔경을 명승지나 특별한 곳, 일상에서 벗어난 곳으로서 다 루는 경향을 보인다. 그러나 점차 관동팔경을 이전 시대와는 다른 시선으 로 담아내는 글들이 많아지기 시작한다. 관동팔경을 삶의 구체적인 공간, 현실적이고 일상적인 공간으로서 주목하는 글들이 그것이다. 잡지에 나타난 이러한 기록들은 통시적으로는 조선 시대의 다양한 기록 들과 현대의 관동팔경을 연결하는 의미를 지닌다. 그리고 공시적으로는 당 대의 잡지 편찬자나 교양 있는 대중들이 관동팔경을 어떻게 인식하고 있 는지를 보여주는 것이다. 이는 또한 당대의 사회가 점점 명승지를 동경하 고 명승지 유람을 즐기던 시대에서 변화해가고 있다는 것을 환유적으로 보여주는 것이기도 하다.
