　The study analyzes the Netflix drama Squid Game, directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, which has caused a global syndrome in two ways. The first is a critique of capitalist society. The fact that children's simple games appear as cruel fairy tales is a device that maximizes the reality of the underprivileged who have to survive the fierce competition for survival in capitalist society. The second is the reality of laid-off workers. Seong Ki-hoon, the protagonist of Squid Game, is a laid-off worker for 16 years. After the dismissal, all of the businesses he did had failed with trauma, after all he has got divorced. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk explains that Sung Ki-hoon was inspired by the actual Ssangyong Motor incident. People who have lost everything in a society competing for survival have no choice but to participate in the extreme death game that risked their lives. Our society will have to create a social safety net so that the dismissed workers, who are socially disadvantaged, can stand up again in good health.

본 연구는 세계적 신드롬을 일으킨 황동혁 감독의 넷플릭스 드라마 <오징어 게임>을 두 가지 면에서 분석하였다. 첫 번째는 자본주의 사회에 대한 비판이다. 아이들의 단순한 게임이 잔혹 동화로 나타나는 것은, 자본주의 사회의 치열한 생존경쟁에서 살아남아야 하는 사회 약자들의 현실을 더 극대화해서 보여 주는 장치이다. 두 번째로는 정리해고 노동자의 현실이다. <오징어 게임>의 주인공 성기훈은 16년차 해고노동자이다. 해고 이후 했던 모든 사업은 실패로 돌아갔고 이혼을 했고, 해고의 트라우마 역시 겪는 인물이다. 황동혁 감독은 성기훈은 실제 쌍용자동차 사태에서 모티프를 얻은 인물이라고 설명한다. 생존 경쟁 사회에서 모든 것을 잃은 사람들은 목숨을 건 극단의 데스 게임에 참석하는 선택을 할 수 밖에 없다. 우리 사회는 사회적 약자인 해고당한 노동자가 다시 건강하게 일어설 수 있는 사회적 안전망을 만들어야 할 것이다.
