Jung Yi-hyeon’s 『Romantic Love and Society』 is a novel that embodies the utopia and the heartless reality of how much sexuality occupies a woman’s desire for sexual orientation and love orientation. In order to raise her status, Yuri performed dangerous stunts with men in different ways in love and sexuality to raise her status. 소설은 인간의 욕망과 현실의 대립에서 나타나는 변화 혹은 반응을 보여 준다. 개인의 행동은 사회에 나비효과를 일으키기도 하지만 반대로 사회적 통념을 이용하여 자신의 욕망을 충족시키는 것에 중점을 두기도 한다. 현실 을 극복하기 위해 자신의 욕망을 가지고 경계선 사이에 있는 인물은 살아 남기 위해 타인의 욕망을 이용한다. 정이현의 󰡔낭만적 사랑과 사회󰡕는 남성들과의 정신적, 성적 행동을 통해 여성들이 성을 무기로 하여 권력을 쥐는 과정에서 신분 상승을 추구하지만 현실을 극복하지 못하는 한계점에 다다르는 과정을 통해 가부장적이고 선 입견으로 가득한 현실을 극복하려 하는 한 인간이 자신이 겪는 상황에서 자아 속에 깃든 욕망과 반응이 어떻게 나타나는지에 대해 섹슈얼리티의 행동과 인지과정을 분석함으로서 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 불만과 결핍을 충족하려면 자신을 무기화 하여 존재가치가 있는 ‘상품’으 로서 고통스러운 현실을 벗어나야 한다는 압박이 가시화되고 있는 부분으 로 유리에게 있어 ‘순결’이라는 것이 자신을 ‘완벽한 상품’으로 포장되기 위 한 과정에서 서로 다른 파트너 남성들과의 간접적 행위를 통해 단계 별로 공정과정을 거치는 것을 성공하고 있다는 점에서 유리는 자신은 어머니처 럼 살지 않겠다는 다짐을 하게 되면서 파트너를 고르는 것에 대해 준비를 하게 된다. 또한, 자신의 권력을 충족하기 위해 ‘불순물’을 걸러내야 한다는 내적인 욕망과 갈등이 존재하고 있다. 󰡔낭만적 사랑과 사회󰡕는 한 여성의 욕망에 있어 성적 지향과 연애 지향 에서 섹슈얼리티가 차지하는 비중이 얼마나 큰지에 대해 이상향과 비정한 현실에 대해 형상화 하고 있는 소설이다. 유리는 신분 상승을 위해 남자들 과 연애와 성적인 부분에서 행동을 다르게 하며 위험한 곡예를 펼쳤고, 부 모 세대가 가부장제 제도로 편입할 수밖에 없었던 과정과 중산층이 될 수 밖에 없었던 가정의 주체 권력 이동에서 익힌 반면교사적인 부분과 권력을 갖고 싶은 욕망을 지닌 자아와 현실 속 자아가 융합하기 위해 기본적인 테마인 사랑을 버리고 모든 것이 계획적으로 짜여 있는 신분이 다른 남자 들과 서로 다른 관계에서 완벽을 기했지만 무기로 삼았던 순결의 인증실패 로 인해 신분 상승의 기회를 획득하지 못한 채 자아의 상실로 이어져 실패 한다. 사랑이 아닌 성적 욕망을 얻기 위한 성별 간의 권력 투쟁의 정치적 활극을 볼 수 있다. 남성 중심의 가부장적 사회가 만들어 낸 폐해와 통제할 수 없는 욕망이 중심이 된 사회를 무너뜨리기 위해 여성은 반대 이성인 남성들의 약점인 욕망을 공략하고 있으며, 상대에 대해 전략적이고 자기중 심적 매력과 권력적 섹슈얼리티를 지닌 여성 인물을 묘사하는 과정에서 한국 현대 사회가 남성 중심으로 이루어진 성, 권력에 대한 욕망을 거부하 고 소설 속에서 여성 중심의 성, 권력 이동, 지배계급이 되고 싶은 욕망에 대해 새로운 세기의 시작과 동시에 새로운 대안을 제시하고 있다.
