This study discusses the status quo of Korean literature education overseas and how to effectively incorporate literature into the teaching-and-learning process for Korean learners. The subjects of the study are Korean minors taking “Advanced Korean” at a Taiwanese language university. Not only did they lack accessibility to Korean books, they also had no prior experience with Korean literature for there were no Korean literature classes in their school. This study was thus conducted based on the determination that foreign students also need Korean literature education, and therefore provides measures on how to effectively utilize Korean literature in the classroom. The objective of incorporating literature in teaching Korean language and culture is to improve students’ linguistic competence, enhance their intercultural abilities, and foster personal development. In order to fulfill such purpose, the study attempts to explore students’ thoughts on literature and their process in analyzing literature, and seeks to inspect the effectiveness of incorporating literature in curricula through student feedback.

본 연구는 해외에서의 한국문학 교육 현황을 살펴보고 해외 한국어 학습자들을 대상으로 문학작품을 활용한 한국어 교수-학습 방안에 대해 논의고자 한다. 연구 대상은 한 대만의 한 국학 부전공자들로 <고급한국어> 수강자이다. 이들은 한국문학작품을 포함해 한국어로 된 서 적을 접촉할 기회가 많지 않았을 뿐더러 해당 과정에는 한국문학 수업도 개설되어 있지 않아 문학작품을 접할 기회가 전무한 상태였다. 본 연구는 이러한 해외의 학습자들에게도 한국문 학 교육이 필요하다는 판단에서 시작되었으며, 이들을 대상으로 한 한국문학작품을 활용한 한국어 교수-학습 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 본고에서는 한국어교육에서 문학작품을 활용하 는 목적을 개인의 언어 능력 향상, 상호문화 능력 향상, 인간적 참여 및 성장으로 보고, 학습 자 중심의 수업을 구성했다. 이를 위해서는 우선 학습자들의 문학에 대한 생각을 듣는 시간을 가졌다. 이후 이들이 문학작품을 접한 후 그것을 해석하고 생산하는 일련의 과정을 살펴보고, 문학 수업에 대한 학습자들의 반응을 살펴봄으로써 한국 현대시를 활용한 한국어 교수-학습 의 실효성에 대해 살펴보았다.
