The abandonment of technology innovation causes the high loss such as the failure of succeeding long-term competency and the huge resource consuming. The previous researches assumed the abandonment of technology innovation as one of the cases of innovation failure. The result of prior researches emphasizes the need of focused governmental supports and explains their selective effects on innovation success. But prior approach fails to find the numerous other factors affecting the decision-making for abandoning innovations. This study assumes the abandonment of technology innovations as the decision-making under the condition of high uncertainty with various obstructions. It means that the abandonment of innovations does not occur just with the existence of strong obstructions, but occurs as the result of decision whether takes the identified risks or not. The result of empirical tests with data of 997 firms provided by STEPI certifies the significant effects of strategic importance, organizational innovation, and the utilization of social networks on the result of decision-making for the abandonment of technology innovation. The insight of this study can provide the new perspective and factors for understanding the failure and success of technology innovations.

기술혁신의 중도 포기는 장기적 성장에 필요한 혁신 성고의 도출을 방해하고, 막대한 자원을 소모하는 폐해를 초래한다. 기존 연구는 이러한 혁신 포기를 혁신의 실패 사례로 해석하고, 그 원인이 다양한 혁신의 저해 요인에 있다고 주장한다. 이러한 기존 연구의 시각은 혁신의 성공적인 완수를 위해 필요한 정책적 지원 방향을 결정하는 데에 도움을 주지만, 혁신 포기의 의사결정에 개입될 수 있는 여타의 요인들을 고려하지 않는다는 한계를 지닌다. 이에 이 연구는 혁신의 중도 포기를 저해 요인이 확인된 상황에서 일어나 는 불확실성 하의 의사결정이라고 가정한다. 따라서 혁신의 포기 의사결정은 저해 요인이 존재한다는 이유만으로 일어나는 것이 아니라, 당시에 파악된 저해 요인을 극복할 것인지 를 결정하는 위험 감수 여부를 결정하는 행동이라고 할 것이다. 이러한 위험 감수의 결정 에는 해당 혁신이 지니는 전략적 중요성이나 의사결정의 구조 등이 폭넓게 영향을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 기술혁신조사가 제공하는 997개의 기업 혁신 자료를 사용한 실증모형의 검증 결과, 이 연구가 제시하는 세 가지의 선행요인인 전략적 중요성, 조직혁신의 실행 여부, 교류 네트워크 정보의 활용도는 모두 혁신의 중도 포기 가능성을 낮추는 데에 유의 한 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구의 결과는 혁신의 중도 포기와 성과를 이해하는 새로운 관점과 사례를 제공할 것이다.
