Foucault viewed the prison as a space of discipline power. His view of prison conflicts with the view that prison is a space for prisoners' rehabilitation and resocialization. Despite criticism of his prison discourse, Foucault's prison analysis based on his power theory provides a new perspective in analyzing and solving today's prison problems. The purpose of this article is to examine the prison discourse in Foucault's Discipline and Punish from the point of view of his power theory. The contents of this study are as follows: First, it analysed the structure and practice of Foucault's power theory through the discussion of body taming, discipline, and panopticon. Second, it presented the fact that the modern prison was born as a way for power to control the individual and tame the discipline, the vicious cycle of criminals, the failure of the prison. and the consequences of the expansion of the prison system. The conclusions of this study are as follows: Through these discussions, it attempted to clarify the modern meaning of Foucault's prison discourse and its correctional significance. Although Foucault's thinking is criticized for not reflecting the humanitarian aspect and being biased towards a totalitarian perspective, he approached the prison problem from an interdisciplinary perspective, provided a direction for future prison administration and the possibility to see it as part of a civil society movement.

푸코는 감옥을 규율권력이 실행되는 장소로 보았다. 그의 감 옥에 대한 관점은 수용자의 교화와 재사회화의 장소라는 관점과 충돌한다. 감옥담론에 대한 비판에도 불구하고 푸코의 권력이론 에 입각한 감옥분석은 오늘날 감옥문제를 분석하고 해결하는 데 새로운 관점을 제공한다. 이 글의 목적은 푸코의 󰡔감시와 처벌󰡕 에 나타난 감옥담론을 권력이론의 관점에서 해명하는 데 있다. 연구 내용은 다음과 같다. 먼저 신체 길들이기, 훈육방법, 판 옵티콘 논의를 통해서 푸코의 권력이론의 구조와 작동방법을 제 시하였다. 또한 근대감옥은 권력이 개인을 통제하고 규율에 길들 이기 위한 방법으로 탄생했다는 점, 우범의 악순환과 감옥의 실 패, 그리고 감옥체계의 확대의 결과를 제시하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 이러한 논의를 통해서 푸코의 감옥 담론의 현대성과 교정학적 의의를 밝히고자 하였다. 푸코의 사유 는 인도주의적 측면을 반영하지 못하고 전체주의적 시각에 편중 되어 있다는 비판을 받지만, 감옥의 문제를 학제적 관점에서 접 근하여 미래 감옥행정의 방향을 제시하였으며 시민사회운동의 일환으로 볼 수 있는 가능성을 제공하였다.
