This study explores the method of describing characters in history textbooks and the meaning of character learning through historical figures. Through this study, we would like to present the following conclusions in detail. First, the purpose of character learning is to correctly understand history by looking back at the traces of people's lives in the past through characters. Second, the effect on learners is very different depending on how the history textbook is described. Third, the description method of the history textbook changes depending on the viewpoint from which to look at history, and the content of the history textbook is also different. It changes. Fourth, the purpose of history education can be understood through the inquiry into the question of why we learn history. Fifth, by examining the footsteps of Adam Shall in the history textbook, it was possible to infer the values and experiences that character learning gives to learners, such as recollection and empathy.
