This study examined the effects of antecedent variables on life satisfaction of elderly people who live alone and who live with others by comparing the levels of depression, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. Using the 15th data of the Korean Welfare Panel held in 2020, independent sample t-test and hierarchical regression analysis were conducted. Elderly people who live alone had a high sense of depression, low self-esteem, and low life satisfaction. For both of them, the older the age and the higher the income level, the higher the life satisfaction. The regression model, which added depression and self-esteem, had a significant effect on both of them, but the effect of self-esteem was higher (β=.40, .41) than that of depression (β=-.28, -.29). The effects of depression and self-esteem on life satisfaction were higher in elderly people who live alone (R2=.409) than in elderly people who live with others (R2=.398). Based on the research results, this study suggested appropriate policies and practice directions to enhance self-esteem and improve life satisfaction of elderly people who live alone.

본 연구는 독거노인의 우울감, 자아존중감, 생활만족도의 수준을 비독거노인과 비교하면서 선행변수가 생활만족에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 2020년에 진행된 한국복지패널 15차 데이터를 활용하여 독거노인 1,533 세대와 비독거노인 3,130세대를 대상으로 t-검증과 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 독거노인은 비독 거노인에 비해 우울감은 높고 자아존중감과 생활만족도가 낮았다. 독거노인은 여성의 생활만족도가 높은 반면, 비독거노인은 남성의 생활만족도가 높았으며, 독거, 비독거노인 모두 나이가 많고 소득수준이 높을수록 생활만족 도가 높았다. 우울과 자아존중감은 독거노인과 비독거노인 모두 유의미하게 영향을 미쳤으나 자아존중감 (β=.40, .41)의 영향이 우울 (β=-.28, -.29)의 영향보다 큰 것으로 나타났다. 우울과 자아존중감이 생활만족도에 미치는 영향은 독거노인 (R2 =.409)이 비독거노인 (R2=.398)보다 큰 것으로 확인되었다. 연구 결과를 토대로 독거노인의 자아존중감을 제고하며 생활만족을 증진하기 위한 정책 및 실천의 방향을 제시하였다.
