In the 21st century, with the acceleration of global integration, the phenomenon of regional cultural fusion has surpassed the country’s historicity and uniqueness, gradually becoming routine and universal. In the fashion world that must constantly accept creative challenges, traditional folk art has also regained eye-catching. Ethnic style has been one of main themes for fashion. In particular, it’s brilliant colors and the patterns highlight a strong traditional art style as well as materials and decorations based on hand made. In addition, new folk crafts and techniques which are gaining more and more attention now, are acting as a source of creative design development in modern fashion. Among them, Pierre Gardin, a famous fashion designer, once said that the design inspiration on most of his evening dress came from the Chinese traditional Qi-pao. Not only does China have thousands of years of tradition and history, but it also has paper-cuts which represent the characteristics of Chinese culture and art. The purpose of this study is to combine the most representative Chinese Qi-pao in traditional Chinese clothing with the Chinese folk art representative-paper-cuts, to develop and design a creative Qi-pao with high added value that is different from traditional Qi-pao and can echo the modern female aesthetic. Therefore, this study analyzes the paper-cutting design that appeared of the global Big four fashion weeks in three dimensions: annual, performance characteristics, and color by using paper-cutting characteristics, items, and details. In addition, this paper develops 6 sets of modern Qi-pao designs that can be worn not only by Chinese modern women in the 21st century but also by those of all over the world. Ultimately， this study will provide assistance for the design and development of current Qi-pao in the future industry.

오늘날 패션은 한 국가의 역사성과 독자성이 부각되는 민속복보다는 세계화된 서양 옷을 중심으로 변화 하고 있다. 20세기 후반 패션 디자이너들은 현대 서양 중심 복식문화가 가져온 다양성 감소와 창의성의 한 계에 직면해 있던 패션계에서 관심 밖으로 사라졌던 전통문화와 예술, 복식에 다시 주목하고 있다. 20세기 후반 이후 중국 치파오는 다채로운 색상, 강렬한 문양, 수공예적인 소재와 장식으로 현대 패션디자인에 큰 영감을 주고 있으며, 최근 중국의 전지는 공예적 예술성과 디자인의 독창적 표현성으로 치파오의 창의성과 고부가가치를 높이는데 기여하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 중국 전통복식 치파오에 중국 대표 민속 예술인 전지를 결합해 현대인의 정서에 부합할 수 있는 고부가가치의 창의적 치파오 디자인을 개발하는 데 있다. 연구 방법으로 치파오와 전지에 대한 이론적 고찰은 문헌 연구를 하였으며, 사례연구와 통계 분석은 세계 4대 컬렉션 여성복에 나타난 전지를 활용한 사진 총 128점을 수집했다. 전지를 활용한 디자인 특성을 연도 별, 시즌별, 요소별로 분석한 후, 전지를 적용한 현대 여성복 디자인에서 실루엣 색채, 소재, 문양, 장식, 아 이템과 같은 패션디자인 요소의 표현 특성을 함께 분석해 종합적 결과를 추출하였다. 디자인은 위 분석 연 구를 통해 얻어진 결과 중 가장 활용 빈도가 높고, 효과적인 방법으로 나타난 것을 디자인 개발에 적용하 였다. 또한 디자인 개발 시 최근 유행하는 실루엣, 색채, 소재 트렌드를 반영하여 디자인한 후 패션 일러스 트레이션과 도식화로 6점을 제시하였다. 이를 통해 전지를 적용한 현대 여성복 디자인에서 실루엣, 색채, 소재, 문양, 장식, 아이템과 같은 디자인 요소의 표현 특성을 분석한 후 결과를 추출하였다. 디자인은 패션 트렌드를 바탕으로 타깃과 라이프 스타일을 반영하여 디자인한 후 패션 일러스트레이션과 도식화로 제시 하였다. 이 결과를 바탕으로 패션디자인에 적용한 새로운 치파오의 창의적 디자인이 개발되길 기대한다.
