The aim of this research was to examine whether the effect of anxiety sensitivity on posttraumatic stress symptoms might be mediated by experiential avoidance. We also considered the possibility that this process might differ across subscales of anxiety sensitivity (i.e., physical concern, cognitive concern, and social concern) in the analysis. Participants were 131 college students(41 males, 90 females) who completed a series of self-report questionnaires measuring trauma history, anxiety sensitivity, experiential avoidance, and posttraumatic stress symptoms. The results indicated that the mediating effect of experiential avoidance in the relationship between higher-order factor of anxiety sensitivity and posttraumatic stress symptoms was nonsignificant. At the level of subscales of anxiety sensitivity, however, experiential avoidance significantly mediated the association between physical concern and posttraumatic stress symptoms. Conversely, the relationship between cognitive concern or social concern, and posttraumatic stress symptoms were not significantly mediated by experiential avoidance. Based on the findings, theoretical and clinical implications of this study are discussed.

본 연구에서는 불안 증상에 대한 염려를 의미하는 불안민감성과 외상후스트레스 증상의 관계에서 경험회 피의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 불안민감성은 개인이 염려하는 불안 증상의 종류에 따른 하위요인(신체적염 려, 인지적염려, 사회적염려)으로 구성된다. 본 연구에서는 불안민감성이 경험회피를 거쳐 외상후스트레스 증상을 예측하는 모형을 전반적인 불안민감성 수준을 포함한 모형과, 불안민감성 하위요인을 구분하여 포 함한 모형으로 각각 분석하였다. 이를 위해 대학생 131명(남성 41명, 여성 90명)을 대상으로 외상이력, 불안 민감성, 경험회피, 외상후스트레스 증상에 대해 자기보고식 질문지를 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 전반적인 불 안민감성과 외상후스트레스 증상의 관계에서 경험회피의 매개효과는 유의하지 않았다. 반면, 불안민감성 하위요인 중 신체적염려는 경험회피를 통해 외상후스트레스 증상에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 신체적인 불안 증상을 두려워하는 사람일수록 자신이 두려워하는 경험을 더 많이 회피함으로써 외상후스 트레스 증상의 심각도가 높았다. 불안민감성 인지적염려, 사회적염려 하위요인에서의 매개효과는 유의하지 않았다. 끝으로 본 연구의 제한점과 이론적, 임상적 의의에 대해 논의하였다.
