This paper aims to understand the valuation of NFT art. In our theoretical background, we critically reviewed the 'selection system' by Wijnberg and Gemser (2002), and the characteristics of NFT. Based on collecting data through direct observation and literature research, then, a collective case study was conducted with cases of the NFT Art Platform, called 'Superare' and 'Foundation'. As a result, it was confirmed that NFT- which is implemented based on blockchain technology inherent in the logic of decentralization- has a technical foundation for anyone to produce works of art with uniqueness and make transactions without intermediaries. However, we found that the NFT art platforms have the selection system for valuing NFT art, and the system tends to be decentralized with sharing the authority of selecting and valuing artworks to the community. Meanwhile, the NFT art platforms established by auction companies have a centralized selection system (experts' selection). This implies that there is a tacit struggle (Bourdieu, 1992) between the entrants and the traditional intermediaries for occupying the prominent position in the stratified structure in the field of art through valuing NFT art.

본 연구는 NFT 아트의 가치화 과정에 대한 이해를 목적으로 한다. 이에 본고는 Wijnberg와 Gemser(2002)에 의 해 제시된 ‘선택시스템(selection system)’을 비판적으로 고찰하고, NFT의 특징을 분석하여 이론적 배경을 마련했다. 이후 직접관찰과 문헌조사를 통해 수집된 자료를 바탕으로 NFT 아트 플랫폼인 슈퍼레어(Superare)와 파운데이션 (Foundation)에 대한 집합적 사례연구를 수행했다. 연구결과, 탈중앙화의 논리를 내재한 블록체인 기술을 기반으로 구현되는 NFT는 누구나 고유성을 지닌 작품을 생산하고 중개자의 개입 없이 거래가 성사될 수 있는 기술적 기반을 내재하고 있는 것을 확인했다. 그러나 NFT 아트의 가치화를 위해 NFT 아트 플랫폼은 선택시스템을 내재하고 있었으 며, 선택시스템의 권한을 다수에게 공유하는 탈중앙화 현상이 나타나는 것을 포착했다. 한편, 미술품 경매회사에서 설립한 NFT 아트 플랫폼은 전문가에 의한 중앙화된 선택시스템을 지향하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 NFT 아트의 가치 화를 통해 미술계의 계층적 구조에서 우위를 점하기 위한 신생플랫폼과 전통적 매개자 간의 암묵적 투쟁(Bourdieu, 1992)의 발현을 시사한다.
