This study attempted to clarify how Lacan's concepts of ‘Other’ and ‘Death drive’ are related to art therapy. And seeing through the eyes of the other, I saw that I had to find my true desire because I desire the other's desire. In the process of escaping from the desires of others and finding the subjective desires, art can be helpful. Because art can become the eyes of others who look at me. Recognizing such other's eyes is the first step towards the subject. Based on these contents, Lacan’s concept of ‘other’ and ‘death impulse’ was applied to Naumburg and Kramer’s art therapy theory. Naumburg’s view of “projecting unconsciousness through the expression of internal desire” can be said to be the way to approach the subject with Lacan’s “the process of recognizing an Other.” In addition, Kramer’s view of sublimation is Lacan’s recovery of the subject, and the fundamental power that leads to the completion of recovery, “jouissance” can be understood as “Death drive.” The ‘self-image drawing’ to explore its practical applicability could be explained as a process of rediscovering the source of the subject’s desire. This study is expected to serve as an opportunity to present a new perspective that is the discovery of reality through the recovery of the subject “facing desire” through a lacan approach to psychoanalytic art therapy, which has aimed at “adapting to reality.”

본 연구는 라캉의 ‘타자’와 ‘죽음충동’ 개념이 미술치료와 어떻게 관련이 있는지 밝히 고자 하였다. 라캉은 나는 나를 볼 수 없고, 타자의 눈으로만 나를 볼 수 있다고 하였다. 그리고 타자의 눈으로 바라본 나는 타자의 욕망을 욕망하기에 진정한 나의 욕망을 찾 아야 한다고 보았다. 이렇게 타자의 욕망에서 벗어나 주체적 욕망을 찾아가는 과정에 서, 미술이라는 매체(媒體)가 도움이 될 수 있다. 미술은 나를 바라보는 타자의 눈이 될 수 있기 때문이다. 그러한 타자의 눈을 내가 인식하는 것이 바로 주체(主體)를 향해 가 는 첫걸음이다. 이러한 내용을 기초로 하여 라캉의 ‘타자’와 ‘죽음충동’ 개념을 나움부르 크와 크레이머의 미술치료이론에 적용해 보았다. 나움부르크의 ‘내적욕망의 표현을 통 해 무의식을 투사’한다는 관점은 라캉의 ‘대타자를 인식(認識)하는 과정’으로 주체에 다 가가는 길이라 할 수 있다. 또한 크레이머의 ‘승화’ 관점은 라캉의 ‘주체의 회복’이며, 회 복의 완성인 ‘주이상스’로 이끄는 근원적인 힘인 ‘죽음충동’으로 이해될 수 있다. 그 실 재적 적용 가능성을 탐색하기 위한 ‘자화상 그리기’는 주체의 욕망의 근원을 재발견하 는 과정으로 설명될 수 있었다. 본 연구은 그 동안 ‘현실에 적응’을 목표해 왔던 정신분 석적 미술치료에 라캉적 접근을 통해 ‘욕망에 직면’하는 주체의 회복이라는 새로운 관 점(觀點)을 제시하는 계기가 될 것으로 기대한다.
