The study aims to provide a holistic view of mass communication research trends of journalism, political communication, public relations, advertising from 1995-2018. I draw a comparative study of the four fields across productivity, theories, thematic concepts, and methods through text-mining and network analysis with the large bibliographic dataset (articles n=53,306). I found that journalism and political communication have shown productive growth while public relations and advertising have been stagnant over time. In addition, journalism and political communication have close theoretical and thematical relationships, whereas PR and advertising are the most different from any other fairs of the four fields. I verified the transition of data gathering trends from the survey to experiments in mass communication research. I hope the findings of this study help to take our course in future mass communication research at the ages of big data.
