It has been transmitted that there are royal tombs from the Baekje period in Sanghwang-ri, Jangam-myeon, Buyeo based on records in literature and the content of tombstones. There are four clusters of ancient tombs including alleged royal tombs of Baekje. This study thus set out to investigate the current distribution and status of Baekje tombs around Sanghwang-ri. Alleged royal tombs of Baekje is arranged so that the three tombs form a triangle, and No. 1 of them is estimated that the burial mound was 12m in diameter. It was a stone chamber tomb. Artifacts made of gold were excavated in the tomb along with lac- quered oil lamps. Alleged No. 1 Royal Tomb of Baekje seems to have been built for a nobleman or local chief based on its similarities in tombs of Dunsan-ri. Also Alleged royal tombs of Baekje are situated in an independent section unlike other tombs of Baekje, which means that they have a unique location in that it is not found in ancient tombs of similar hierarchy. The tombs where alleged Sanghwang-ri artifacts (former Hahwang-ri artifacts) were collected were stone chamber tombs made of plate stones in stack and in the structure of hexagonal type ceiling. Flower-shaped silver hat ornaments collected from the tombs are major artifacts from the Sabi period of Baekje. In addition, it is said that golden ear- rings, yarn, and swords were also excavated in the tomb. These artifacts indicate that the tombs had relatively high hierarchy. In this sense, the tombs of Baekje around Sanghwang-ri are located south of the Sabi capital city and include tombs of high hierarchy equal to the royal family. Other tombs were built around them including tombs of high hierarchy with flower-shaped silver hat ornaments buried in them. This pattern has not been found in local tombs as well as tombs outside the Sabi capital city.

부여 장암면 상황리 일대에는 이전부터 문헌기록과 묘단비의 내용 등을 근거로 백제 때 왕릉이 있었다고 전해오고 있다. 상황리에는 傳 백제왕릉 외에도 왕림마을과 그 동쪽의 화림마을 일대, 그리고 은화관식이 수습된 舊 하황리 수습유물 등 4개소에서 고분군이 분포하고 있다. 이에 본고에서는 상황리 일대 백제 고분군의 분포 와 그 위상을 파악해보았다. 상황리 傳 백제왕릉은 3기의 고분이 삼각형을 이루도록 배치되어 있으며, 그중 1호분의 봉분은 직경 10~12m 정도이다. 고분은 횡혈식석실묘로 내부에서는 금(금동)으로 만든 유물과 옻칠을 한 등잔 등이 출토되었다고 한다. 傳 백제왕릉 1호분은 봉분의 규모와 석실묘의 구조 등에서 둔산리 석실분과 비슷하여, 적어도 귀족이나 지방 수장급 정도의 위계는 가졌던 것으로 판단된다. 또한傳 백제왕릉은 능선 말단부의 독립된 구역에 입지하고 있으며, 세부 가지능선에 따라 고분이 배치되는 양상도 능산리고분군과 견줄 만하다. 이는 비슷한 위계에 있는 고분군에서는 확인되지 않는다는 점에서 입지상 특수성을 갖고 있다. 傳 상황리 수습유물(舊 하황리수습유물)이 출토된 고분은 판석으로 축조된 횡혈식석실묘로, 평사천장의 구조로 보인다. 그중 은화관식은 고분이 사비기 중요 고분이었음을 보여주며, 이외에도 금제 귀걸이와 금사, 금도 등도 출토되었다고 전하고 있어 비교적 위계가 높은 고분이었던 것으로 보인다. 이러한 점에서 상황리 일대 백제 고분군은 사비도성 외곽(남쪽)의 고분군이지만, 왕족급이나 이에 버금가는 위계의 고분이 존재하고, 인근에도 은화관식이 부장될만큼 위계 있는 고분들도 있었다. 이는 사비도성 외곽고분군은 물론이고 지방 고분군에서도 전혀 볼 수 없었던 양상으로, 상황리 일대가 차지하는 위상을 잘 보여주고 있다.
