During the pandemic lockdowns from 2020-2021, businesses operated on digital platforms when mobility and logistics limited the travel and transport of products and services. For Malaysia, the digital economy in 2018 contributed to 18.5% of the economy, which was equivalent to MYR267.7 billion in DGP. Leveraging on the success of the digital economy, village cooperatives, and cottage industries should emulate the trend in e-business. The qualitative study using interviews as the primary data collection showed that these entities based in rural areas could profit if the ICT infrastructure is in place. For now, internet access is the main impediment to embracing the digital economy through online business. The study is significant as the village cooperatives, and cottage industries contribute to a significant percentage of Malaysia’s economic growth. In today’s Information Era, the local industries must be part of the global commerce since we are heading towards the endemic phase.
