Festivals in modern society display the local culture and environment, and they themselves contain important cultural contents that reflect the region. The local festivals represent the regional identity, help the cultural capacity of the region, allow the cultural awareness of the residents to be expanded, and provide a unique tourism resource for the region. Chuncheon is known for its diverse festivals. In particular, Korea's leading performing arts festivals maintain their traditions there. Festivals act as a prominent feature of local culture and are a major element when it comes to study local culture. These festivals, which have been constantly changing, are now confronted with the transition to a newer stage. By examining the birth and growth of the festivals in Chuncheon area, especially in village festivals that have recently emerged, I tried to find a new model for festivals that can reflect regional characteristics well.

현대사회의 축제는 지역문화와 환경을 담고 있으며 그 지역을 담아내는 중요 한 문화콘텐츠가 되고 있다. 지역의 정체성을 나타낼 뿐 아니라 축제를 통해 지역의 문화적 역량이 성장하고 주민들의 문화의식이 성장하는 한편 지역의 독특한 관광자원이 되고 있다. 춘천은 축제의 도시로서 인지도가 높은 곳이다. 특히 국내 대표적 공연예술 축제들이 전통을 유지하고 있다. 지역문화의 한 축이 된 축제는 지역문화를 연구하는 중요한 요소이다. 또한 꾸준히 변화하는 축제는 보다 새로운 양식으로 전환이 요구되고 있는 시기이다. 춘천지역의 축제 탄생과 성장 추이를 살펴보면서 이 가운데서 최근 새롭게 부각되고 있는 마을축제를 통해 지역성을 충실히 반영한 축제의 새 모델을 찾아보고자 하였다.
